I had 85K on my car when I pulled it apart, with the factory hone marks still on the jugs. Main bearings were perfect, with some slight wear on the layshaft. Rings were not worn out at all. I did debate about rebushing the rods, since they we also OK, but I figured while I was in there....so I replaced/rebushed a fair amount.

My valve guides were on the edge of Porsche wear specs (you measure by the amount the valve head wiggles in the bore at a certain extention), and my SAI passages had lots of carbon but most were open, if marginal. I could of squeezed more miles out of that engine with little effort.

What I am saying is you should be able to get lots and lots of miles from these engines, especially the bottom end. I can see that lasting 200K or more, just watch out to make sure your oils have good zinc content etc.

Cheers,

Mike

You mentioned warranty? Could you explain more about how you still have a warranty?

I bought the car from a Porsche dealer in Chicago when it had ~29k mi on the clock and purchased an extended warranty (3rd party) because I was concerned that "something" could go wrong. It's been about four years and I haven't used it!

So it was set to expire this month and I decided to take the car in for a full PPI. Since these oil leaks are covered by the warranty and there is a lot of labor to fix them I thought I would just sort the SAI/valve guide issue and whatever else she needed.

No offense intended, but why are you impressed that an engine still has crosshatch at 50k miles? Thats nothing for a modern motor. Even 5.0 OHV ford engines with 150k miles have crosshatch on them.

Good deal - who is your 3rd party warrany from? I have one of those for 100k that is supposed to be pretty good, but never really thought I would use it. I got it thrown in for free when I got my car. Maybe when I get a few more miles, I'll do this as well.

The warranty is from Heritage. I can't say that I have a lot of experience filing a claim with them so we'll see.

Have you actually got verification that they will pay to fix these leaks? I didn't think that these aftermarket warranties were that comprehensive.
