Default FINALLY, got a 996 3 spoke airbag!

What is going on, the supply of these just dried up!! just one month ago, the leather one was $475 @ the dealer, then it went up to $875!!!

E-bay went the same way, they were all around $2-400 & now they are all $800+!

So, at last I found one, it's yellow, but I can dye the leather, it will go well with my brand new 3 spoke wheel I stole on eBay for $200.

Now all I need is some black leather dye, any one got a good lead on a matching black dye?

Cool, I was looking for a while for one too, but then the 4 spoke grew on me & I actually don't mind it at all now...

I used the "Color Plus" leather dye on my air bag cover and steering wheel. Because I colored both I wasn't overly concerned about the color match, but was told it was an exact match for Porsche's black leather.
If you go this route I would recommend air brushing it. I used a small foam brush and the dye went on a little thick and it took some care to avoid leaving brush marks. It's good you don't need to color your wheel as the stitching on mine became little stiff from the dye.

I got lucky and was the only bidder on a steering wheel and leather airbag on ebay and was able to get it for $300. It was in like new condition and the seller was a Rennlister.

I recommend SEM Classic coat flexible coating. I used it to change the color on a shift **** and it worked great!

I have a vinyl airbag for my three spoke wheel, and I almost bid against you on that airbag because I wanted the leather. I'm glad it went to a Rennlister who will put it to good use!

I used surflex applied using a spray bottle from home depot. I am happy with the results.

Good score! Any reason for the crazy price jump?

Stealth 993,

Nice buy.

That puts you right around $500 for the complete set-up! Sweet.

Thanks, I got a bottle of it. I'll post pics on how it comes out.

I'm glad you didn't! I was worried about the auction, if you look, there was a person with 0 feedback bidding it up, just a little at a time. My final bid was well over $300. There was no way, I'm paying $800 for a airbag!

It seams like there was a Feb price increase on Porsche parts. Doubling the price is just unreal!

Yea, with shipping & dye, it's just over $500. I should have got one 6 months ago, when they were all over the place.

Is colorplus preferred over Surflex? I am about to order some of this stuff..

Stealth, I thought you snatched that SW over on Pelicanparts?

Nice find either way

Ok, no one say anything about the dirt! We have had, rain, snow, sleet, & I've been sick for the past couple of weeks.

The car before....

The airbag, when I got it....

After...
