Matt777,

There are no sales data for these types of cars. Thus the question: if you actually own this rare gem, what would you sell it for?

Ken,

You have PM.

Matt,

If the house sells, that would do the trick nicely.

Mike,

What if she never marries???

I get so mad about this economic situation when I see a post like yours. I would hate to see you sell that special car but one can't argue with your reasoning. We are going thru some changes at my work and I may have to consider selling my car in the future. I can hardly stand the thought but if I have to, so be it.
I was going to try and vote twice. Once if you were going to sell it to me but your price categories didn't go low enough. So my real vote was $75-$85.
Maybe there's a form you could fill out and get some of this Obama cash they are throwing around and then keep the car?

The reality of things is there are many that want to believe their cars are worth more than what the market commands, especially giving the economic conditions the world sits in today.

I wouldnt know how to price it. I would put it on Ebay, set a reserve price, and see where it lands. For $75 you can test the waters. . Put a reserve of X and see where it lands or better yet, it may sell.

Opinions will be all over the map on this board.

Pong,

Bad timing!!! given the economic downturn...to sell a gem like this...boy.

I'd put into storage and what for things to pick up. It is a rare beast and worth a boatload when times are good.

I don't think, as a matter of economics, that sellers get to set sale prices on luxury goods such as Porsches. You'll sell your car for whatever someone is willing to pay you for it, assuming you consent to the price.

Ken,

CP
I can only estimate a value as a potential buyer (which I am not). So far the consensus is that the value is in the lower price range although, oddly enough, almost the same number of people think it is in the higher range. I've sold a few muscle cars over the last few years and have found out that the market is very small. I believe there is always someone with the money and the desire but it can take along time for that person to come along even when the car is priced right. I had a car priced too high last year and it didn't sell. Don't count on getting offers if you start too high. I don't know what you are hoping for but I think low 50's would be top dollar. I still think getting a professional appraisal from someone who knows and sells Porsche would be a good starting point and could net you a faster sale over starting high and dropping the price. My opinion is free and perhaps worth every penny. Good luck with the sale.

Hi Pong,

No sure if this helps.

In New Zealand we have three genuine 993 BTRs. These are original factory built RUF VIN cars. All have the PDK clutch 6 speed.

These cars have always been very hard to move and in the lst two instances have sold less than good 993TT. nfortunately in a market as small as ours with no RUF representation maintaining these cars has put people off. The cost to maintain as well. RUF even spec different brake discs on these cars than the standard Porsche fare! Furthermore all three of these cars have had serious mechanical issues in the past (well one of them was written off in an accident nd rebuilt so Im not sure if that counts). The semi auto clotch software in one and a piston through a case in another (see past threads from Daniel the owner).

However in the States these cars may be more poular than New Zealand or the UK because of greater population and the ability to support the product.

I have no idea about your market but i have been observing the global market closely. My advise would be that a RUF factory VIN car is worth more than a converted car in terms of collectability. Its hard to say a car is collectable if it can still be converted to BTR spec by the agent even today (dependant on how much money you have to spend). Secondly I would say that mileage would be a consideration. At some time all engines will need pulling down for maintenance - the closer you are to that potentially expensive exercise may determine the price you ultimately get for the car.

My thoughts Pon is that your car may fall in the midlle of whatever poll results you get. To be honest the poll results are worthless if BTR owners are not voting or are voting but do not have their car on the market.

You would be better of polling "how much would you pay for a black 993 BTR with 90k miles". Then you could review the data with more interest and maybe see if one of teh higher voters is wanting to put his money where his mouth is.

Just my two cents on this.

Cheers
Macca

Hi Pong,

So sorry to hear you considering such. But that is my sorrow as you are obviously doing the right thing for your wife and family well-being. Kudos to you, brother, for acting responsibly and, dare I say, selflessly. Next time we meet, feel free to take my lowly NA daily driver for a spin ...and lunch on me bud

I am sorry to hear you, like many of us here, are forced into the cold calculus of painful choices.

While the gap between the employed and unemployed is huge - huge! - anyone with real estate or stock holdings can't be feeling too great right now.

Good luck to you, whatever happens.

Pong, it would be sad to hear that you've sold the car, but whatever happens I wish you all the best. I'll never forget my 5 minutes of heaven with her

Come to think of it, why don't you see what RUF Auto Center would offer you for it, or if they'd sell it for you here or overseas?

Wow, a Ruf BTR as a dowry, that's a few steps up from a cow. I guess if your are fishing for whales you gotta use the big bait.
