Default Need your input. If you owned my BTR... (Poll)

Hi,

Most of you know my car. If not, here is a reminder.
http://sites.google.com/site/993rufbtr/

Now let's say you own this car. My question is: how much money will you sell this car for? If you have particular reasons for your price point, I'd love to know. So please feel free to elaborate.

I have set up a poll to make this easy. Thanks again for your indulgence.

I would sell for ~$80K region, assuming I would WANT to sell. while it is difficult to really gauge as there are not a lot of comparison points (i understand your dilemma) Rarity is certainly a valuable commodity however.

I think it would depend on individual financial situations as well. If I lost my job, i would be more willing/motivated to sell. In my current situation, I would have no motivation to sell. hence my particular vote.

I am not up on the Ruf market, but I just don't think this particular vintage would fetch >$85K in today's market.

Folks,

I do love my car, that is why I have a hard time parting with it. Reasons to consider selling now are many, but does not include: switching to something else.

(1) Insane local traffic-enforcement/revenue-generation has totally curbed my desire to drive. http://cdn.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...BAJE166JS2.DTL I have MANY friends who got tagged recently (family included) and the fines are astronomical.
(2) The economy is very depressing. We are down roughly 70% with our house-hold income (average last 5 years) and see no end in sight (CA residential architect, need I say more? ). While my job is safe for now, and we are not in dire financial shape, we are considering serious down-sizing in all aspects. The Ruf is a great toy, but it is still a toy. It is wonderful in flush times, but an utter luxury in these times.
(3) I am getting older (just turned 58) and I need to be thinking about something else other than fast cars.
(4) I will make my wife very happy if I can sell the Ruf. I do love her more than I love my BTR.

I am not nieve to think that I can name my price. In fact, I am painfully aware that it may not sell at all, at any price. But I'm throwing all my speghetti on the wall and see what sticks. (my Cayman, and 2 pieces of very nice real estate never generated any offer, if that's any indication)

So now you know the rest of the story.

Pong:

As you are well aware, you have a VERY special car but also one that is hard to value. Converted cars are so hard to openly establish.

However, given all of the interest your car generates between the various interest forums, I would pick a price you are comfortable with and post the beast FS. If your price is at all reasonable, folks will inquire.

Depends on miles. I own a 930 BTR and have owned two other Ruf's prior to that. These cars are so rare, it really depends on what someone is willing to pay. You can count on one hand how many sell per year.

These cars are very rare. You have a "Klimt" of the automotive world.

I voted for 85+... I would bring it to EU if I had not committed to another large purchase.

Good luck... whatever you do.

Good question. I just updated the site to list the current miles: 126,700 miles.

Thanks.

Jim,

I always value your input highly. That is why I posted this thread. When I bring my Ruf to the open market, I will take these data input in consideration so my asking price would not seem 'unreasonable'. No regular tire kicker will pay for my Ruf. It will have to be a car guy to even think about it.

Pong,
You are a very logical and selfless person.
Goodluck with the sale.

With very limited market data, especially if you want something recent, it is a tough call. I will take a WAG and say somewhere between a low mile S car and less than a TT. Perhaps consigning it with a specialist would be an option for a car like this?

As we casually talked a couple of months ago, I know one of the two guys I mentioned I could put in touch with you probably still has discretionary funds (and desire) given everything else that's going on..........but you've got to throw a starting point out there!

I still think it should go to Melissa as a wedding gift.
