Default Another Becker 210 to 220 conversion question...it shouldn't be this hard!

I was just told that if you have the hifi option that this conversion won't work.

Is that true?

Can anyone confirm that they successfully switched out a 210 to a 220? I suppose I will call Becker tomorrow.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the 220 give you that the 210 doesn't? Better sound? Additional hookup options (e.g iPod)? I've got a 210 and the hi-fi option in my 993 and was wondering if there's any substantial benefit to attempting a conversion to the 220.

Plug and play with the hifi option.

Better sound, better looks, ***** instead of rollers, and iPod can be operated through it.

The 220 has better sound?

BTW, how are people running the iPod cable?

not sureif the sound is "better", the tuner may be a little better as it is "newer", but I doubt most of us could really tell.

there is an Aux cable that connects to the CDR220, Becker carries them. you then need an RCA to mini adapter to connect the iPod, OR you can use a Navone Engineering ipod to RCA cable. (which is what I did) The Navone cable is nice because it also charges the iPod and connects to the line out (bottom)

is the new search that bad, or do people not even try anymore??

It's that bad. Check the thread at the top of the page on the maintenance. Among other things, search terms are being ORed, and the latest development seems merely to echo the recent posts, regardless of topic.

I'm with you on the "rennlist helps those that help themselves," but while the search is broken, we're going to have to be more forgiving.

Mark, that is a plug-and-play solution for connecting an iPod to these units? I have a CDR-220 in the '02 Turbo. Was not aware I could do that!!

Both of my 993's have the Hi-Fi option, the 95 needed some wires redone, the 97 was PNP!

The 220 has better sound?
I thought so. Not state of the art by any means but noticably better than the 210, especially the tuner quality.

Worked for me, plug and play.
I think that's generally true but I also have the DSP option (with the panel in the driver's door pocket) and I found I needed to add a jumper wire to the plugs behind the head unit to get the DSP amp powered up. Try just plugging in the 220 and if everything works you're obviously good to go but if you connect everything and there is no sound you'll need the jumper wire. It's an easy fix so don't let that deter you (if it's even a problem). The jumper wire mod was covered here in detail on another thread(if you can find it).

BTW, how are people running the iPod cable?
Plugs in the RCA inputs for the CD changer and a route along the center console is popular because you'll need access to the iPod since you can't control it at the head unit. As I understand it the bad news is that you can't use both CD changer and iPod, it's an either/or proposition. The single CD on the head unit will still work fine though.

Wachuko,

I think you are asking the question. So I will respond as such. Yes, it is my understanding that the cable from this vendor is P-N-P. From posts I have read it is simpler than other methods involving RCA plugs etc.

Stealth 993 in this thread is using this cable for his iPod connection and it was PNP.

I finally gave in and bought a CDR-220 yesterday. I decided that I didn't want to drill holes in my trunk to mount the CD changer, so I guess I should sell it and the bracket.

My question is: where are people placing the end of the wire for the iPod? In other words, where is the best place to put your iPod so it doesn't slide around while you drive and still have easy access to it, and where should the end of the wire stick out?
