Default Best things to do in Germany ?

I'll be visiting Germany for about 3 days in June later this year. I have plans to do the new Porsche Musuem and book myself in for the factory tour and the co-pilot drive while there.

Has any had the pleasure of visiting the museum and factory yet ? Good ? Bad ?

Also planning on doing Mercedes and BMW. What else would you recommend to do while in that part of Germany ?

Regards

HI!

Take a trip by car from Stuttgart to Munich. From Stuttgart to Nuernberg and then the A8 from Nuernberg to Munich. This part of the Autobahn is 6 Lane and for about 100 km no speed limit. You may be overtaken by a train (ICE) which travels parallel to the autobahn with 300km/h. Rent a one way car from Stuttgart to Munich to do this trip (total distance about 220 km).

There are many things you can do in Munich: Go to a beer garden, visit the Löwenbräu Keller, visit the English Garden, for art go to the "Neue Pinakothek", have a walk up the Olympia Berg at the Olympic Center of 1972 and see over the town and the Alps on the horizon.

Its a perfect time to travel to Germany. The Nature even in the cities will catch your eye.

Have a good time in our country

Regards Martin

Beer and Bratwurst! This will give you time to take in the local scenery. The ladies are very easy on the eyes! One thing I've wanted to do is take in a Futbol (soccer) game. The crowd gets into it like Americans do at our football games.

3 days aren't many... Wouldn't it be worth staying a bit longer seeing as you're coming all the way from Australia (I suppose). Nurburgring is a must and the rhine valley and black forest are beautiful. Vineyards on the outskirts of Stuttgart could be an idea - they are really close to the Porsche & MB museums. Munich and beer... and you already need a week. I could go on...

If you head up to the Cologne area you can drive on the Nurburgring. If going from Nuernburg you might like to stop in Rothenburg o.d.t. on your way to Munich. You can spend a lot of time in Munich. If you are into museums, check out the Deutsches Museum!

Any kind of beer garden will be nice. You could make a boat cruise on the Neckar river in combination with a Heidelberg visit. If you like middle age history, I suggest a visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and have some good wine and food from the Franken area.

And if you go earlier in June: Do not miss asparagus (white) and strawberry season! Every local restaurant should have plenty of delicious and fresh dishes.

I guess no speed limits on an autobahn can be a big hit for some but I wouldn't travel half way around the world to see how fast I can go on a 6 lane road... for the Nurburgring yes. Just my 2 cents.

+1 for Munich, Nurnberg, Rothenberg o.d.t. but, if you get to Munich, drive down to Garmisch/Partenkirchen. You won't regret it. You really should stay longer. It will take a minimum of a day to experience each city.

Absolutely! Couldn't you spend the whole three days in that place?

To give yourself the chills, and appreciate what man is capable of (and I say that in worst way), visit Dachau.

I've been wanting to go to Germany for a second time myself. Great ideas in this thread. The Ring is an absolute must and even though I know driving flat out (to the limit of the car that is) on a six lane highway is no comparison, it would be nice to drive an unrestricted stretch of Autobahn at least once in a lifetime.

I won't argue with that, I was just saying I wouldn't make it the highlight of the trip.

I agree. Also, the best shortcut from Fussen ( Neuschwanstein) to Garmisch Partenkirchen is through Austria. A BEAUTIFUL drive though the alps!
