Default Doing a major service, what else & plug wires

Ok, so I'm going up North next month to visit some Canadian friends, & meet Mike, who is going to help me wrench my C4. I'm doing a ton of stuff, & am getting all the parts. My question is, what plug wires? I can get Beru ones for cheap, but I also saw Magencor & Nology. Pelican has a performance set.

Here is my break down....
oil change
trans fluid
diff fluid
PS fluid flush
brake fluid flush
distributor belt
cap & rotors
plugs
plug wires
belts
fuel filter

I think that is it.

I think I got this from Doc, but it could have been another Rennlist contributor. It's a nice check list. The good news is 'checks' are free.

993 Maintenance Schedule
15K / 30K service and costs
Every 15K miles/24K km:

Change engine oil
Diagnosis system: read out fault memory
Anti-pollen filter: replace filter element
Oils and fluids: visual inspection for leaks
Crankcase ventilation: check tightness of hose connections
Fuel system: visual inspection for damages, clearance and tightness of line connections
Intake air: check hoses, lines and connections for tightness
Parking brake: check free travel of parking-brake lever
Brake hoses and lines: visual inspection for clearance, damage and corrosion
Brake fluid: check level
Brake system: visual inspection of brake pads and discs to check for wear
Clutch: check play or final position of clutch pedal
Throttle linkage: check for smooth movement and full throttle opening [this one gets inspected every time the car is driven, right?]
Resonance flap and Varioram: check operation (Carrera only)
Steering gear: visual inpection of the bellows for damage
Tie rods: check play and dust caps
Power assisted steering/clutch: check fluid levels
Ball joints: visual inspection of dust caps for damage, check tightness of wheel alignment adjustment/mounting bolts
Manual transmission/axle drives: check oil level
Automatic transmission: check fluid level

Exhaust system: visual instpection for leaks and damage, check tightness
Tires: check condition and correct tire pressure
Door hinges: lubricate

Safety belt: check operation and condition
Seals for doors, hood and roof: remove rubber residue from body seal contact areas, apply suitable lubricant
Vehicle lights: check operation
All headlights: check setting
Horn: check operation
Windshield washer, headlight washer: check fluid level, nozzle aim and washer fluid freeze protection level for the winter season and whcih wiper system operation
All other electrical equipment as well as indicator and warning lights: check operation
During road or dynamometer test:
Brake pedal, parking brake, clutch, automatic speed control, steering, heating, air conditioner and instruments: check operation
Oils and fluids: visual inspection for leaks

Additional service every 30K miles/48K km:
V-belt and Polyrib belt: check condition and tension
Replace spark plugs
Air filter: replace filter element
Replace both engine oil filters
Automatic transmission: change ATF and ATF filter
Drive belt for power steering pump: check condition

Additional service every 60K miles/96K km:
Manual transmission and axle drives: change oil
Automatic transmission: change oil in differential

The manual also recommends brake system and airbag system maintenance every two years.
10 year service suggestions:

2. * Change spark plug wires-Beru
3. * Change air inject check valve (SAI check valve)
4. * Change both cabin air/pollen filters
5. * Change the engine air filter
6. * Change all 12 spark plugs (yea, esp. # 12 that, I know, is a PITA)
7. * Change both distributor caps
8. * Change both distributor rotors
9. * Change fuel filter
10. * Change engine oil (I will supply 10Q Mobil 1 - 15W50)
11. * Change large oil filter
12. * Change small oil filter
13. * Change A/C compressor drive belt
14. * Change Alternator drive belt (inner)
15. * Change Alternator drive belt (outer)
16. * Change power steering belt
17. * change ignation coil wire
18. Change manual transmission fluid. REDLINE
19. Bleed/flush the clutch hydraulic system
20. Bleed the brakes
Note The brake system was completely flushed less than 7 months ago so the
(ATE super blue)
21. Please perform all the (remaining) normal checks, lubrications etc. as
specified in the
60k service interval. In particular, please re-lubricate/check tolerances of
the manual
transmission gear-shift linkages/bushings etc.
22. Remove and Clean ISV
23. Replace front hood shocks

I would lift the car up, remove the steering rod protection cover ( Front car Protection sheat) and check the steering rod bellows.
These are rubber accordeon tubes that protect the steering rod ends. After ten years, there is a great
chance these are dryed up and cracked.
It takes 5 minutes to change. If you want a detailed DIY, I am glad to tell you how.
part number 171 419 831 c price $10

Wires and Plugs

Just email Mark Robinson at porschesolutions@gmail.com (No affiliation). He will send you a set of wires for less than 150. You can reuse the caps, if they are in good shape. I just did it on mine wth Jaime (see my sig) and it took about 8 hours including lunch, drinks and motor cooling.
Thanks for your input everyone. I just spoke with Sunset and they charge $560 for the set of ignition wires(I was charged $800). The Distr Caps are $81 each (I was charged $122 each) and the rotors are $37 each (I was charged $55 each).

I was charged an hour for the plugs which initially seems reasonable...however, if they did lower the engine to do the wires, the plugs should take all of 10 minutes to replace. The challenge with the plugs is positioning when the engine is in place and not out of the car.

We will do that while she is on the lift...pretty easy to get access when you can stand underneath the car.. ;-)

Also did the clutch master cylinder, when doing the slave. I've said in other posts that doing the clutch master & slave resolved issues, when I thought I needed to do entire clutch--put off spending a ton of $$.

I do not know the history of things done or mileage, but if I am in there, the alternator condenser might be necessary.
I personally went beru, no substitute.
Source the bosch dialectric grease, very very handy for plug wire and distributor belt change...good luck

They are fine, the clutch was replaced about 4 months before I got the car.

Alt condenser? I got grease, I'm pretty sure Mike also has some.

I got a BMG air filter in there, it's only 6mo old. I just did the pollen filters.

I think Mike would have his suggested source for the plug wires but I got mine from AutoHausAZ.com for apx. $400 a year ago. They were the correct Beru with all the connectors and the plastic retainer pieces already installed and the wires were labeled with the correct cyl. number on each wire, made replacing them MUCH easier. I would compare AutohausAZ with Sunset for best price.

Does anyone have any aftermarket wires on their 993's? I know you don't get a lot from them, but everything helps.
