Default Springs!

Need some help here.

I purchased a set of H&R street coilovers from a RL member a few months ago. I got them installed but have an issue with height adjustment in the front. I have threaded the coilovers all the way up as far as they will go and the car is still VERY low. I understand the H&R's lower the car quite a bit, but there seems to be a significant difference between front and rear. The rears are down about half-way on the threads of the shock, while the fronts are as far up as I can possibly get them. I'd like to get the front up about another half-inch or so, as it sits rather "raked" in the front right now. I also get some noise from the fronts on bumps, suggesting that they are not long enough to hold the top hats on spring and thus rattle when extended.

I guess I'm looking for spring replacements? The shocks seem very firm and they looked in good shape when I got them. I've double and triple checked the install, and used Jeff's guide to do the initial install with a very capable friend.

Any ideas on what to replace the springs with, or should I bite the bullet and just order some PSS10's?

What did you use for front spring perch & mount?

Are you sure the front springs are on the front & the rears are on the rears?

I know this seems silly but I did exactly that when I installed them. The front springs came prepackaged around the rear struts. I was slammed in the front and high in the rear. I didn't realize it until I installed the fronts as there was enough threads in the rear to lower it sufficiently. The springs are labeled with a (f) and (r).

Another possibility is that you're missing a shim between the stock spring perch and the strut body. It was a big shim that was provided with the kit, at least 1/2 inch. I'm pretty sure I used the one H&R provided and the stock shim as well.

I don't see how we could have missed this, but I guess its entirely possible. I never even thought about it. They came around the struts, as yours did. Guess I need to go look and see if I can see where its marked. Thanks for the tip!
We did use the shims for sure.

Sorry,
I thought about it and the rake was the reverse when I had the springs on backwards. The back was too LOW and front was too HIGH.

What's your fender gap? My fronts were at least 25" from floor to fender, with space on the threads to go higher.

Don't expect much higher than 135mm ride height on the front with H&R's. That's about 1 1/5" below stock. IIRC, H&R claims that the springs lower the car about 1 1/2" +/-.

Its about 2 1/2" down I think, and adjusted ALL the way up to the point that I cannot see any remaining threads above the spring perch. The front measures 24 1/2" through the center line of the wheel to the bottom lip of the fender. The rear is right at 25" with much room to play in either direction.

Something is not right. You should be able to get even rake with the rears at 25" from the floor. You're using the oem top mounts and not a thinner pillowball mount?

Maybe you can take some pictures of everything under the wheel well and someone may notice something we're thinking of.

It would be helpful if you gave the actual ride height measurements at each corner.

The rear should have a total range of adjustment of about 2" or so, as I recall and you say that you're in the middle. I'm not clear on why you don't think you have any room for adjusting height in either direction.

Are these the H&R coilover set, or is this H&R springs over Bilstein HD's?

I Have H&R coilovers in mine and am running at RS ride height. I have plenty of movement and a good range of ride height adjustment each way. Something must be wrong. Photo's might be a good idea.

Hope it works out soon

Is RS ride height equivalent to 25" measuring from floor to fender edge ?

RS ride height is about that, though this is no where near accurate enough as a measurement to rely on.

I'm following this thread closely, as I will be installing the H&R "street" coilovers on mine sometime in the next couple of weeks. Pictures would really help me here.
