Would 993 value ever come back up?

Good thing is nothing is worth much right now, from your house, to any cars, or other collectables. I think this year they will hit rock bottom, then start to go back up a bit. I do feel it will be years before they hit the prices they had a couple of years ago.

Reading further in the SCM price guide, the general point being made is that most # 2 & #3 condition cars are taking a 20-30% hit due to the poor economy so now is the time to buy any good-quality collector car you like.

i'm in favor of the price decline as i'm getting ready to purchase a 993 (in the next few months). Also 996 and 997 prices will have no bearing on my decision as a 993 is what i want. For the average person that just wants a p-car to say they have a p-car a 997 may be a better choice, but for those looking for an air cooled 911 they will have no other choice but to buy "old school". And ultimately demand dictates price.

If I compare the 993 board to some other boards here (except for the 997 RS guys), it seems like a lot more people are interested in how the value of these lovely cars will develop.
This is a sign to me that the market has at least partially been driven by "speculators" rather than people who are really interested in driving the car. I will keep mine and enjoy the heck out of it for as long as it runs, so I won't be putting it on the market. For all those that speculate with it - change your mind and keep it, that will be the best thing to maintain the value - as others have said before me, its all about supply and demand!

Unfortunately or not, if the 993 market in any way resembles the stock market, we're in it "for the long haul". It's not gonna bounce right back.![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

I am in the market for another one in this market also. Not sure what your budget is or what you're looking for, but I'll sell you (or someone) mine.

I bought my 993 to drive it knowing full well that would impact the value of it. I look forward to enjoying the heck of it. Value is all relative. I have wanted a 911 for as long as I can remember (or drive ) ad that's a long time. To be able to own a true classic 911 in it's truest form to me is priceless.

[I] have owned mine since 1996- used with low miles. I have only one thought ! Every time you turn the key-it is like free entertainment! This factor has never changed through out the years.
I still have a big smile on my face after driving all these years. Prices will go back up as everything does. But I only purchased the car for driving pleasure only. Not for investment!

Prices would ONLY increase if demand for the cars increased over the supply- that's the way it works.
I don't see any reason demand for normal 993's will increase, or supply of normal 993's will decrease. (Race cars and very rare versions could obviously be exceptions.)
In my opinion, the prices held high for a long time due to most people hating the appearance of the 996, and used 997 prices being initially much higher than 993's.
But now that used 997 prices are down as far as the mid $30's (for example, see http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=320337973500 ), many, if not most, of the folks who would have been previously attracted to a 993 will be more attracted to a more modern 997.

There has to be something about the air cooled cars. Cheap 996s that are newer and faster have been around for several years without affecting the 993 market much.
All you need is one more guy who wants that 911 feel than there are 911s left.

I think the styling goes a long way to explain the difference between a 993 and a 996 (or even a 997). The headlight design probably did more to the value of the 996 cars than anything. To the average joe, the 996 looks too much like a boxter.
for anyone that knows Classic Corvettes, the 63-67 is widely regarded as the best looking model ever produced and has been highly sought after by collectors (even when the car was only 15 years old). There have been a lot of faster, better handling, and better engineered cars since then, but I doubt there will ever be another mass produced model that will be in the same category as a 67. I think styling is critical to a car's legacy and collectability.
I'm not convinced the 993 will ultimately be a highly sought after model 10-20 years down the road, but it's possible. It's just hard for me to look at something with plastic bumpers and modern amenities in the same category with an 356 or older 911. However, I do think the 993 will be in the conversation (based on it's styling) long before a 996 or 997, even though the newer models have better performance.
Like others have said, values are down on everything and nobody knows what they will do. Hang on to it as long as you are enjoying the car and can afford to keep it.

GRWOOLF- you nailed it right there. Just because there are newer "better performing" models out there it doesn't mean the older car value has dropped. You can pick up a clean '03 Z06 for $20K around here, but you won't find a rotting '67 vette for that same price. And trust me a Z06 will wipe the track with a '67 any day. Another perfect example is me... There are more 996 cars down here for $18-$24K than you can shake a stick at, but i'm prepared to spend more for a 993 because thats what i want! Damn, what the hell am i doing....... yeah these 993's are tanking, i wouldn't be suprised if they fall below $5k

I agree with the people who said these cars are to drive and not to worry about what they're worth or will be worth. Having said that, I've been a BMW guy nearly from the beginning, and a few months back, when I had finally grown tired of my 840ci which I had for years, I thought do I want to get an M3 or change to Porsche (and, of course a 911) which have fascinated me since I was 16. I made the move, in part, because I think these are cars to keep. But if I turn it over down the road, I believe it will be worth more relative to any other move I could have made. I read where 7 out of 10 of every Porsche ever built is still on the road. If this is true it seems to me a stunning figure.
