Default How much did YOU spend on maintenance/repairs last year? Me: $3772

I'm referring only to the 993... Was wondering what you guys spent on maintenance/repair expense last year (not including "unnecessary mods)? I just added it up and it was $3772. Most of that was the parts for a new suspension (mine was shot) and then 2 rear tires ($336 each for tires). If it wasn't for the gracious help of a few local Rennlisters who installed my suspension for me, that total figure would be much higher. I'm guessing this year will cost ALOT less, if I'm able to keep the car. If my job takes a turn for the extreme worse (it's looking that way), I may have to sell the car, but that's a little way's off so I'm not concerning myself with that for now. That'll be another post, for another day. I can't wait to drive it to Philly this weekend for the day to visit an old elementary school friend and then my uncle in York PA. I rarely take a road trip in it anymore, and now that I have a Garmin Nuvi 200w I won't have to constantly be wondering if I'm on the right track or not! Thanks Mark from Baltimore - this was worth every cent of the $179 I spent on it.

My 2001 BMW 740i sport stacked up like this: $3891 total for 2008 (ouch - it was a tough year for repairs).

Repairs included (and I bring it to my independent for everything) new freon, water pump, thermostat, exp tank, hoses galore, glove box latch, 1 Michelin Pilot Sport tire, alternator, serpentine belt, idler tensioner, wipers, and MAF. More $'s then usual. Car has 85k miles on it and has to last... forever! The only car I'd replace it with would be another E38 (2001 740i). I'd be a fool not to, due to current E38 pricing (about $8500 for my car). What a bargain an 01 740i or 01 750il is now! WOW! Sometimes I secretly hope my car gets stolen or totalled so I can get... a low mile, 01 750il with everything on it. ) That 12 cyl 750il is soooo smooth on the open road.

How did your repair bills stack up this past year?

Now, why would I add that up? We call that evidence around my place...

Oil and 5000 mile service $350 and a new oem rear lamp $100... total just $450! It was a tough year for for me with my BMW X5 V8 though... $2600!

Cost of repairs: $3772
Cost of Gamin nav: $179
Cost of road trip to visit old friend and Uncle: Priceless

Come on, you can rationalize this....the suspension is a one-time thing, like a capital improvement, so the car's value just went up accordingly (ok, not 1:1...), so don't count the full cost in "repairs". See, not so expensive after all....

I drove her (<-----) to work today and realized she still puts a smile on my face every time I drive her! And THAT my friend IS Priceless!

One oil change at MikeJ's so only the cost of two filters at Sunset and 12 litres of oil. This year may be a different animal.

Usually it's best not to know. If I had to guess:

A/C compressor, dryer, and recharge: $600
Oil change: $100
Power window switch: $20
Brake pads (cheaped out and used old rotors): $150
Battery: $75
O2 Sensor: $125
Fuel pump (didn't need - misdiagnosed): $300

Total: $1370
Hmm. Only $3.60 per day to thoroughly enjoy my daily commute and the occassion back road foray on the weekends. Worth every penny!

This year she gets a 120,000 mile service, chain cover gaskets, billet valve covers (new gaskets on old covers still leak), and new plug wires so I suspect '09 expenses to be about the same or a touch higher assuming there are no unforeseen major issues.
Although if I drop the engine for the service, I'll likely do the lifters too so add another $450!

Well....let's see....what I can remember--

*Top End
* M030/Biltstein HD set up
* Professional, concours level detail, including full restoration of seats and repair of rim rash
* Bumper Respray
* Replace stone guards (on fender flares)
* Replace interior (door jam) weather stripping
* Replace interior plastic pieces which were worn or cracked
* Beginning and end of the season oil changes and routine maint.

Don't really want to add all this up, but it's a pretty big number.

I track all my 993 expenses in Excel, but I have a policy against using the Sum function in that workbook.

Oil change
O2 sensor
H&R Coilovers (stock suspension was toast)

Not too bad, less than 2k as the H&R's were used and I did the install with a buddy, and all oil changes I do myself

it promotes an unhealthy state of mind to keep track of such expenses. I wouldnt obsess over it.

Yeahhh, let's see:

MO30/Bilstein HD's, alignment, oil change, rear tires, alignment check, some plastic trim bits, cleaning supplies - not too bad, really.

Non Maintenance stuff:
