Oil change labor at local wrench = $70.
Oil + filters roughly = $100.
Sumis all around = or < $600.
===============================
Total roughly $800.

Who said Porsche ownership was prohibitedly expensive! Even our 13 year old cars can be reasonable to maintain (depending on how lucky you were in any given year!).

Since my 993 ownership, on a yearly basis my beaters have cost way more to maintain. Infact the 993 has been cheaper to maintain and more reliable than my 944T.

Kika, I hear Otto's in Venice charges $750 for this. I'd love to know where you take it and what the result are; I plan on doing an SAI flush as well. Let me know, OK?

Thanks!

Can I add an international flavo(u)r to this thread?

First , my mile munching mule , the CIvic..

One gallon of oil
One oil filter
One oil filter removal tool (bottom shelf variety!)
Total: E38. (that's euros to you!)

993 .. Hmmm..

One starter motor replacement:.. E600
one spare DME .............................. E 22
One set SRS's .................................. E400
One set HID's .................................. E150
Set of bumper supports ................. E280
Set of heat shields ..........................E 120
2 Ballast resistors ............................E 80
Service with engineers report .......E2000
Bosch battery....................................E 80
All the joys of the first year of 'getting to know you' 993 ownership.

Maybe I should also mention , oil level sensor gasket , windshield cord , exhaust tips , exhaust clamps , dremel tool , axle stands , trolley jack , full set of ratchet tools , battery maintainer , angle grinder , workshop light .. All bought in the last year as I embarked upon my DIY career for the first time (It's a late vocation!)

ARRRRGGHHH .. MY EYES!

I'm not adding that lot up ..

On the plus side , that expensive service / engineers report means I'm now signed up to a lifetime maintenance contract with a top notch UK Porsche specialist , so from now on I pay 90 pounds STG a month to him, and if anything goes wrong (from a worn disc o a blown engine) I just pay for the parts, he provides the expertise and the labo(u)r. Also included in this fee is ALL annual servicing costs .
Here's his website , it's good for a read.. if you've got an evening to spare!
www.hartech.org

So hopefully someone will start a thread like this next year and I'll be able to gloat ...
Hopefully!!

Derek at Lomita 911 is my plan. He currently has my son's 300CE right now, wo when he is done, I will drop off the 993 and pick up the CE. (got a new tranny, $2K)

It is time for the 993's annual oil change, so I figured I'd go ahead and have the SAI flush done to clean that up.

Maintenance on both 993s wasn't that much. 60000 mile service on the 95, ~$1200US, no repairs done or needed. Oil/filter change on the 97, ~$200US, new power steering hose, N/C, new tires, ~$650US.

Although I have all receipts for parts & labour on mods for both, I promised myself I wouldn't tally them until the house was paid off. In other words, not for a fairly long time!!!

FYI, the 996's only expense was for an alignment after having new Bilsteins installed. Then again, I only had it for five months/5000 miles. It didn't use a drop of oil either.

Actually zero on the C4S, but I made up for it by finally putting the PSS9 kit on and actually paying to get it aligned last month. First alignment I've paid for on a 911......ever. Bought the PSS9 kit in '06, so yeah that's fiddling with the numbers.

The '95 had the failed AASE valve spring in September. So $800ish to Steve to get that head back into shape, plus another $1K or so on incidentals. And that's zero for labor. Gotta love aftermarket racing parts! And I bought a couple of RA1's for the rear of the car last summer. Other than that, just used brake pads, etc. that were still left over from buying the car from Kim.

Me? Less than 8% of what I paid for the stupid grocery-getting, kid-karpooling, trash-taking, ski schlepping, vacation-vehicling Volvo wagon.

Same here.

If it weren't for the new Gahh top in Oct. ($2,600) I'd have less than $500 for the year. Of course the big items were the balast resistors and I did that labor. I do need to add the ~$140 for the HID Headlamp upgrade but overall not too bad, even cheaper than the '97 M3 since the vandals stole it's front bumper and the hood was resprayed.

I spent almost $8k this year on rebuilding turbos, new intercooler hoses, fuel pressure regulatior, check valve kit, air filter, cabin filters, oil change, and 2 rear tires...and only drove the car less than 5k miles this year. Runs great but ouch! Most of it was labor of course but the rates in NYC are a bit on high side. I have my fingers crossed it will only be one oil change this year.

Steve, on you e38 was your coolant repair stuff preventative or did you have an issue? Also, why the glove latch if I might ask? My glove compartment won't open for some reason and I haven't had time to really look into it. It's just stuck.
