Anyone paint 993 Targa wheels?

I restore Speedline wheels for my friends on Rennlist. The centers are painted, inside hoops are painted and the outer hoop is polished and sealed with TSC which is brighter and more durable the clear powder coating. I usually refinish the bolts in nickel plating as it is more durable than most factory finishing of the bolt heads. jdorociak@gmail.com
From what I know about these wheels they are two piece wheels and I see no reason why they could not be restored much like the Speedline wheels I have been restoring. Jim

Jim, speedline hasn't released the specs on the bolts. Do you replace, or reuse the bolts?

Yup, Pather Machine here in Vancouver did one for me. They took the wheel apart, refinished it, and assembled. They happened to have made a custom tool for those particular bolts/nuts, so it was no problem for them.

Came out perfect, although I do like the black with silver rim look you have there.

I guess the take apart and reassemble is fine, but does anyone use new parts? I'd hate to think that the wheel might fail because the bolts were fatigued.

I reuse the bolts when I refinish wheels. Most of the specifications are 10.9 bolt strength and these are torqued to a range of 18 to 24 ft lbs so there is no way they could not handle being reused, unless I find rust on the bolt shaft during my refinish then I do not reuse that bolt. Speedline bolts are available new from FVD, but last time I checked I found them at $6.00 each and the nuts were $5 each, so it is cost prohibitive to replace. There are 40 bolts and even if one broke it would not be catastrophic. I usually refinish the bolts and nuts in nickel as it is a more durable finish than the factory finish, which I have seen the bolt heads exhibit signs of rust after years of outside use. Jim

A little OT, but I had my 18" Sport Classic II (by BBS) restored and they removed the bolts and repainted the centers as well as refinished the wheel. I think the job is better when the centers are removed. Just my opinion though.
