The tire installer I used several months ago torqued my wheel lugs too tight. Today, when preparing to remove a wheel for cleaning (car in winter storage) I managed to break the special socket. Can't find one listed in Pelican Parts. Anyone know where I can get a replacement (besides the 'stealer')?

Duh, that's "Wheel", not "Weel"; but, I guess you knew that.!

Dealer is probably it, or ebay. I've seen them here too I think. You will need the number from your socket, should be easy to replace.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I see no number on the socket itself or mention of a part number in the owner's manual. Without a part number, I'm not sure what words to use to search on eBay.

If you don't see a number, call your local dealer and ask if they have the master set, because not all do. You can take in and compare. They probably won't mind you not ordering from them if you don't want to.

Lost my nut a while back and the dealer was kind enough to take of the locking lugs for me. My wheels aren't so special so I put on regular nuts instead.

Usually there is a code card that comes with the lock set that you can reorder the socket.

DEALER, there $18, & there are several kinds, most will have them in stock.

When I got my C4S the dealer swapped wheels for me, & kept my socket, so I was forced to get a new one.

Do you still have the little plastic it came in? Number will be on there also. If you have other members close, you can try theirs until you find the match. Might not be worth the hassle on that part though, unless the dealer wants to charge you 1 hour minimum labor to check it. They don't call them stealers for nothing...

No plastic with a number on it. I guess I'll make a trip to the dealer this week with the broken one to match up.

You need a 12 point socket, can't remember size 11/16??, small sledge hammer, propane torch, small bucket of ice water, and 4 new lugs.

Use the sledge to knock the 12 point on and remove the lock as normal. I used rags to protect the wheels. After removing use the torch to heat the lug and socket for a few seconds and then drop it in the ice water and she'll pop right out. Move on to the next one. It took me a total of 20 minutes.

I like to leave the key on the lock and drive till she comes off. Then try to find the key. The second time I've done this. Fun huh!
Yes I put locks back on, but only because I had a set already. I'll be ordering lugs soon and never again!

A friend of mine had a great idea. Spray paint the key Fluorescent Orange.
Has anyone had their wheels stolen? I never have, and with my instructions above it wouldn't be very hard to do. Whats the point of the locks anyway?

When I called the local Porsche parts department, he told me to bring in the security lug nut and he could match up the correct socket for it. Seems like a bit of a "catch-22" to me since I need the socket to remove the lug nut.

I found a rather nondescript plastic zip-lock bag deep in the bowels of the spare tire storage area. It has a white label with "PORSCHE 015" in large print and "JD16296" in small print - lower right corner. Is this the all-important plastic bag with the magic codes for the security socket?

The dealer's service department will have a box with all the keys. If they're nice, drive your car there, buy 4 new regular lugnuts, and they might let you remove your weird ones with their keyed sockets.
