Hey Scott (I knew that!)
Good idea on the group shipping! It could be a Seattle GTG with lifts!
nicknack,
Nice find on the Northern Tool. I have bought lots of stuff from them. I will call and find out about a group deal!
I told both ASE Deals and Gregg Smith about the thread and so they know there is some competition. Northern Tool adds a third.
Cheers!

Has any one of you seen or heard about these guys and this lift?

My best buddy forwarded it along and it looks good but I do not know the source.
Cheers!

I've been looking for one. Want to be able to drop the engine without cutting/modifying it.
Also, this looks interesting but there are concerns with the anchors and it won't fit in my current space.

Update and Summary...
I am really not getting any "group buy" interest from these distributors. I don't know...6 of these would seem like a good incentive. Who knows what they are thinking.
I called Greg Smith and got the same price as they sell on ebay and a little more than they quoted Scott. No real interese in a group purchase. I got $1,295 and we could probably get it down to the $1,250 that Scott got them to. Scott offered to have them ship to his work and distribute with his van from there. Very nice!
Northern Tool has the Band Pak for $1,799 shipped. No call back on a group purchase. Bend Pak controls price.
On another note, I am now leaning to this lift:
http://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/...utoal29kfp.htm
Now if the mid rise guys (Greg Smith) would have offered us an end of the year killer deal at say $1,200 I would have jumped on it and never looked back. But...I had time on my hands and found this lift and it is available in Portland OR so no shipping...just a road trip in a Enterprise van...woo ho!
I like the idea of being able to have the whole bottom of the car open and I have the room in the garage on the sides. I don't have the head room but I am OK on the lift height.
So that is the update...any suggestions?
Cheers!

Here is a spreadsheet comparing the three, could not copy the excel sheet so I did it this way.
They range in price by a bit from $1250 to $1500 (1800 - 300 for shipping)
Does the Bend Pak have additional features to justify the extra $250, BP includes shipping which I value at about $300

fwiw, I went into the local Greg Smith store and they offered me prices below what they had on their website. maybe they just want you in there. I ended up getting their $89 engine support bar for $60. And that was without asking for it.

I'd be interested at around $1200 delivered for something that can do a "wet" 911 (996/997 GT3) and 993 Turbo engine drop. Something that can take a Cayenne for wheel and brake work would be nice too. I'm happy to move on price to work with the group buy. Unless it's a 30% discount off list price, there's no incentive for me to buy now rather than later when I need to pull the snow's off the Cayenne and flush the track car (or replace the fronts on the Prius ... again ...)
In this economy, just getting a call from a single customer should bring out the welcome wagon. The profit margin in the scissor/mid-rise units I've seen must be 200%, so holding fast on a $1500-$1800 price point is suicidal for these vendors, in my humble.
I expect I'll get a four post storage hoist if anyone else would rather go that route for a group buy. Something 110/220 and a known brand (I don't want to stand under something with second rate quality.) So if the group-buy goes forward, it really has to be a top tier brand, not a "Lift Kwik E-Z" sort of thing.
I'd suggest adding accessories helps create a price advantage -- things like drive-on ramps for low price/long overhang cars -- always trouble given the height of scissors -- drip trays and chassis dollies for the four-poster. My hesitation in getting a four poster so far as been the terrible build quality and the absolutely pathetic condition of the thing upon arrival (picture something with rust and dings out of every surface, build dates from a year or two back and being sold as "new.")

ASE Deals is offering the Bend Pak for the same as the Northern Tool at $1,799. Not exactly getting me reved up to buy.
Again, given this time to think I have leaned back to the 2 Post lift and I found one where I can pick it up so no shipping.
Cheers!

Sounds like Ryan Borst from Garage Equipment Supply is willing to work with us on the MD-6XP mid rise scissor lift , he can be contacted at rborst@gesusa.com if anyone wants to take the lead on a group buy and contact him.
