Default Help removing shift ****

How the hell do I get this off? I've got everything stripped except this. I've been reading through threads but still can't figure it out. Thanks!

Yank it like you're 15 years old. Just don't hit yourself in the forehead .

Hi,
All you have to do is pull hard enough on the shifter knop and it should come of.

Pull hard straight up and slightly twist foward. They have a slight little notch on the inside. It would be hard to mis it up so up hard.

If the techniques mentioned above do not succeed .... try a small shot of WD-40 at the base of the shift **** just above the rubber shift boot ....

Pull it like you mean it.

Are you changing it? If so, PM me if you want to sell the old one. I have a 996 **** but need a leather boot to cut and use.

Yank on it! Just watch the forehead. You WILL hit yourself if you're not careful. I just did mine. I didn't understand how it came off (even after reading just pull it). Finally I got pissed off and yanked it real hard, not caring if something broke.

Guess thats how they do it in Germany

Put a vice grip on the metal shaft of the shifter and use a pry bar on the bottom of the ****. Use appropriate padding under the vice grip and pry bar to make sure you don't scar anything...

+1. But I smacked myself in the forehead like you wouldn't believe the first time I did it. I swear you could see the shift pattern backwards in my forehead.

The shifter rod has a notch on it, and the shift boot probably has a protrusion to fit the notch. The notch is on the front and back of the top portion of the shifter. The secret is NOT to put pressure or grab at the front and back of the shift boot, but rather on the sides. It should come off easier that way.
