Ha! Our family car was an '85 Golf diesel. I think it had 55hp when it was new. By the time I annexed it the odometer had quit and was stuck at about 300,000km, but the car kept going despite the daily flogging with which I punished it. I miss that car so much.

Slight continuation of the hijacking... first cars were 85 Jetta, 83 GTI, then an 88 GTI. Loved those cars; named them Jetta, Pepper, and Sabastian.

I wouldn't put a puck on the bare arm... would probably be OK but that would make be a bit nervous. Have someone fab a simple saddle and bolt a puck to it. That would work well!

EDIT: or you could just buy these I guess http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Sl...ter-p/tpsp.htm

I use pucks as well. I tried the saddles, but on the 9000lb lift the arms were just at the wrong spot, so the saddles would end up on the end of the big arms, not totally on the arm. This is one of the reasons I spread the towers by another 14", the arms are now not too long and fit the 993 perfectly. In fact I also can lift by 8800lb Ford utility truck and the wife's Pathfinder with that setup.

Cheers,

Mike

I have the Atlas 9, and use the regular lift pads for the 993. Long lift arms in front, short in rear.Hockey pucks on the back pads. The car has to be forward pretty far, which is good. For 996/997/ and Boxsters we remove the front pads and use the saddles for the front....pad w/puck for the back.

That GTi was my first love too. It seemed so exotic back then.

+1
didn't mean to insinuate the 993 wouldn't fit the arm pads.
And pucks are a necessity in the rear though NB cars just barely clear the rockers, the puck makes it certain.

It sounded like Perry was asking about putting a puck on the main arm... that would worry me and I would want lateral support.

Darin, do you mean to place the 993 "backwards" on the lift? Otherwise, how do you get the long arms in front and short arms in the back? (or do you mean leaving the rear arms retracted while extended the front arms) Backing in the 993 seems like a pretty good option if that works. It might make it more challenging to open the door get out though.

Another benefit of putting the two towers on the Atlas 9 farther apart...the doors on the car have much more room to open!

I am glad you find the Atlas 9 lift usable as specified, but I could not get those long arms to fit correctly, or at least not without the car quite a bit forward of where I thought it should be.

However, the lift is wayyy overkill for a 3200lbs 911, so its no problem..

Cheers,

Mike
