Took the radio out, don't use the AC, and put my course map in the door compartments... not sure where I'm going to put them once I have the RS doors. Only thing I hate is that I don't get to drive it as much as I want, and that's more my issue than the car's. Although having to cycle the door locks to start the car after waiting in grid for my turn again can be... bothersome.

The immobiliser has to be the top pf my list. No range. Quirky operation. Key fob breaks. The other things I've tended to accept as classic 911 features. I never adjsut the HVAC excpet the temp **** becuase I can't see the controls and I'm not sure what they do anyway. I find the ignition keyhole by braille. Yes. it's a reach to change the stereo, and I use the slots in the seat cushions to hold thin things. Any passengers must do duty as the cupholder.

I don't have that big an issue with the immobilizer. The only time it's an issue is after it's been sitting in my garage and I get in and have to do the turn, press, crank routine.
Compared to the 968 I have driven for a good bit longer, the pedals aren't positioned to heel & toe as easy, the gearshift is lower, and the steering wheel sucks. Fortunately, all of these are fixable. The offset pedals and wheel are quirky, but you get used to that.
And it's furkin expensive to fix just about anything on it!

Most of this is tongue in cheek and we all love our cars..these are nits....
If we wanted a car that "fixed" all these issue we would drive 996s. Ick...not for me!
I got the call the other day...about 2 weeks ago. Dad was really in bad shape. We jumped in the 993 at 10 PM and drove 13 1/2 hours with just driver changes at the 2 gas stops (2-stop strategy but then we are F1 geeks). Would it have been a little (a lot) more comfy in the 2002 540i or wifes 2001 SL500. Yup. Would a 996 be a little more comfy...yup. Was I glad I took the 993...yup.
My wife (awesome copilot, BTW) had several discusions about the trip and how the 993 was as a long distance vehicle. It is a car that you don't hop into and not pay attention. Every steering input and RMP makes a difference. At 4 AM after driving through the night for 6 hours, I like the intensity.
Dad punched out for the final time after we were there for the last time. Glad we used the 993 to get there. It doesn't make the quirks of the 993 better or acceptable. They are just there. It is sure nice to know we could hop in and take the 993 accross country or where ever.
It is hard to describe, but the car when driven hard or for long distances it just works. I don't care to have a car that is perfect or dumbed down.
I will keep this car for as long as I can. I'm not perfect either...who cares!

Both my folks are in their mid 80's and I'm just waiting (dreading) the phonecall from my sister to "get on a plane and come home ...NOW!"

Same here....if it's in my car, it better be stowed somewhere or it will get tossed around big time. One of my biggest pet peves is to have stuff rolling/sliding around inside my car. When I slam on the brakes, take a corner hard, or accelerate hard...I don't want to hear anything sliding around.
Good to hear that the 993 could brighten the trip.
