There needs to be a step somewhere in the rim to make the transition to the 18" rim width, plus in this step is usually where the valve stem is drilled. The 5.25" rim pictured is actually a inner hoop that I had made for a 930 offset set of Speedlines. Part of the reason you see so much rim with no transition is because it is 5.25" deep. Jim

Guys I just painted a set of Techart Daytonas made by Speedline a special color requested by one of my RL friends who I am building this set for. Justin requested an Audi color from a S4 2008 -- Daytona metallic gray peal effect. It is so dark, but has so much metallics it is difficult to photograph. All that glitter looks stunning. More pictures after I assemble the set. Jim

Jim. Any thoughts on my hoop question.

Also on your last post, are there any issues painting the entire center? The hoops are a pretty tight fit and from the factory speedline did not paint the outer portion of the center as you know.

yes there are issues in painting the entire center in paint. If you look closely you will see tape lines protecting the center flange area from paint and with tape and my device I make to handle the centers during painting I also keep the paint out of the center area so the center caps will fit.
I will have to inquire as to the ability to request certain bends and their locations in making the outer rims. Jim

Ah...I figured something like that since you had the paint chip in the past.

Keep me posted on the rim bend location. If it can be made with the bend closer to the face, I will surely go with a new hoop when the time comes. Right now I am chasing oil leaks.

Keith - the technical answer is that a "step" is needed because this particular wheel uses a 17" center and not an 18" center. AFAIK all 18" rims (as well as other sizes) have a "step" since it is needed in order to get a tire mounted onto a rim (if you look at Bill Verburg's sideview diagram of a rim on his sizing chart you will see what I am referring to). The difference is that "normal" 18" rims have the step on the face side and use a 17" center, whereas "reverse lip" 18" rims (ie Roocks, my Gemballas below, etc) have the step on the hub side of the wheel and can thus use an 18" center. Now if you were able to somehow source an 18" RS-style center you could theoretically build a set of these in a reverse style but you'd have to drill a new valve stem hole and weld close the old one.

Too bad Kinesis never got around to releasing the Supercup II...that was a great looking RS-style rim with 18" centers and a reverse lip.


That would look amazing on a silver, yellow, white or red 993....actually, that would look amazing with just about any color!

Michelle - I have a set but they are blue centers with Speedline and a 1/2 circle above and below the name in silver. For Matt's car I took a fuchs center, cut it down and made it fit where the insert use to be. Are all the plastic tabs still intact in the rear? Jim
