Default Tucked in for winter, storage questions, couple pics

Well, it's that time of year again. I've put storage insurance on the 95 and done a few things to prepare it for hibernation.

1. Full tank of 94 and a bottle of fuel stabilizer (1 bottle/70litres)

2. Over-inflate tires to ~48PSI and park on cut up, rubber mud flaps.

3. Hook up a battery "maintainer."

Any other suggestions?

I thought I'd also throw in a pic of my 97 after a few alterations, even though they're not really visible, and my friend Doug's 98 C2S(DROOL!) which is also about to go to sleep for the winter. I've put H&R springs with Bilstein HD's on the car as well as wide ovals(leftovers from my 95 as that car now has Supercups) and some wheel caps I found on fleabay. Next up; new rear centre reflector panel (also fleabay), getting the seats redyed even though they're in pretty good shape (Is my OCD showing?), and maybe Fister D stage IIIs.

Just watch for rodents making a home during the winter months?? Other than that - others will probably have other suggestions, but for me???

Great pics!!!

Battery maintainer?

If that's an unsealed concrete floor, a vapour barrier (I use a polyethylene painter's drop sheet from Canadian Tire) under the car keeps the moisture from the car.

Mothballs in the engine compartment, cabin, and luggage compartment apparently help to repel the rodents mentioned above. I make up little cheesecloth bags filled with mothballs...easy to remove in spring or on nice winter days when I just neeed to drive the car.

I've read a bunch of other ideas, but most of them seem a bit over the top to me. These are cheap, simple, and easily reversed.

This thread may help with winter storage issues. It also has a link to another site that may be useful.

That's the thing, I'm only "storing" the 95 for winter. The black 97 will keep me happy through our mostly wet winter. I do draw the line at taking it out on salted or snowy roads though, I'm afraid of getting hit by other motorists!

I don't know how cold it gets in your garage, but if it gets below freezing, you will want to make sure that you have winter windhield washer fluid in the tank. Ou a piece on tin foil over the exhaust opening with a rubber band to prevent rodents. Leave your windows open a crack to allow moisture to exit.

I will assume you did the oil change prior to storing. Agreed on the aluminum foil over the tips but I also but some steel wool inside of each tip before putting the foil over the tips before securing. Just an extra little precaution. And I always leave mine in 2nd gear without the parking brake on.

Some type of moisture absorption packet. I believe it's indicated in the owners manual.

I leave the window open a crack, I use a full car cover and I leave the brake off and the car in reverse. I do chock one wheel just in case. I also agree with the steel wool and foil. I also put the foil over the heater air intake as well. I put a BIG note on my steering wheel reminding me to remove the foil over the air intake. 52 psi in the tires, fresh oil and top the gas tank. Good idea about the winter windshield wash solution.

Default I use a car cocoon. Pictures not for the squeamish

One year I had to move the car mid-winter to do some work on the garage..

So I moved it to a different garage on my property and for one month it went unprotected from rodents....

The material you see packed into the fins is fiberglass house insulation. This was discovered when I had the engine dropped for valve guides and LWF....

When my mechanic sent me these pictures,my teeth fell out, making small clattering noises as they hit the floor...

This is the reason why I have a 3.8 (I needed new p+c's so wtf!)

I essentially keep my car surrounded by a small moat consisting of cloth tubes filled with mothballs. This surrounds the cocoon. I also spend a full day setting rodent poison in the garage.
