Patrick,
"I've not seen one (arena red) I didn't like."
I'll go you one better... I've never seen a 993 I didn't like. Every model, every color. They are simply one of nature's best looking cars.

I was in the same boat as the OP... thought I wanted arctic silver for classic look and greater ease of aesthetic upkeep but loved all the arena red machines I'd seen.
The right car came along and it just happened to be arena red... poor me.

Silver (I like polar, I think - the bluer one) is a fantastic and classic color for a 911, but I really like AR, Aventurine Green, and Midnight Blue (and Vessuvius and...)
The car is this thread makes me feel funny down below :P

James Dean ........... the first Porsche, both in Silver, classic. I don't think your red interior was in either.
Silver is a good looking color and my last Porsche was Silver but I always felt the Silver made the car blend in with every other car on the road. Thank goodness that's only my openion.

I know this is a really old thread but I often question AR choice so I started poking around to see what others say. In the sunlight...my clean AR car is stunning. I have no question that I love the color. Then, other times it has a purple tinge to it...especially on cloudy days...when the car is dirty. So, my ultimate decision is to keep it really clean and glossy...and pray for sun every day!
I think silver, although nice, is very common and gets lost.

Silver is the more 'classic' color, arena red was an optional color. I also looked at 2 silvers, an arena red with the camel interior which I did not care for too much. Then saw an arena red with the marble gray interior, and fell in love. At the time I was looking, there were not too many 993's for sale. Also looked at guards red and speed yellow.
On here, seems like arena red is not so popular with most, but in the real world I get tons of compliments on it, even from other Porsche owners. The only complaint I would have on it, is when it's very dirty, in some light it can actually look brown. But clean and waxed, it actually has a deep red candy apple look to it, just beautiful!

I was looking for a silver 993 when I found my arena red car. I now prefer the arena red over silver hands down! I may have a second 993 in the next few weeks and it looks like it will be silver

IMO it's a hard colour to beat. I have owned gaurds red, midnight blue, black, Zennith blue and Arena is the sexiest there is. Not only that it was the launch colour IIRC.
Hard to beat when it's just been polished as well.
Definatley a panty dropper colour

There was a survey post some time ago taking votes on favorite color--I can't find it now but it's out there somehwere. IIRC the "silvers" were the winner with the "reds" a close second.
I'm a Guards Red guy, but ALMOST bought AR 3 years ago--and would have if the owner had waited a day or two. My DD is close to AR--GREAT color and then you have the "panties factor"!!

Shame on you for questioning AR. The Gods of Arena Red will repossess your car and give it to someone who loves it unequivocally
Of course AR is the best
