Bill that is exactly the use I put my car to and yes a very worthwhile and not expensive mod. Here is a pic of the mount on my car

Thanks, it sounds like a good idea, the ERP GT2 kit loks like what is needed.

What is involved in doing this beyond what is necessary for the replacement all the controll arms?

Colin, Just what is the Stiff Axle Kit you are posting about?? Are you referring to what some are calling the GT2 Tilt Kit ?? If So, are these Tilt Kit solid mounts suitable for the street ???

Bill et al,

I switched to the Tarett control arms and also used ERP monoballs inboard on the kinematic arms. As per Steve W's advice, this really 'tied down' the rear end and improved feel immensely. Also very streetable.

Now, re. the Gt2 solid mounts - does anyone have a part number for these? Are these Porsche motorsport parts, or 9M/aftermarket...?

TIA,
Matt

ERP also sells solid mounts like these. I've installed them and have no complaints, and they're certainly streetable. ERP mounts don't seem to have that (roughly) 1" standoff that the "tilt kit" has, for whatever reason. I have no idea which is preferable or what difference it makes. Does anyone know?

ERP does make a tilt kit, in addition to the standard solid body mounts. I don't think the tilt kit is legal for PCA's stock class.

Not sure about that part but my kinematic toe links (# 3 in your photo) were shot at 60k miles. I had to replace them when I changed out the shocks.

Eric: The GT2 tilting blocks gives the rear suspension cage a downward tilt in the front. As the cars accelerate, the rear tends to squat. As it does, the factory tilt of the suspension cage will tilt up in front and change the geometry of the rear uprights and other links. With the GT2 setup, as the rear squats a little it actually brings the entire rear suspension into a neutral position.

GT2 Evo mounts, Tilt kit, Stiff Axle kit - all the same thing.

My recommendations above is our order of priority for a customer upgrading a road car to achieve stability on the edge of grip - whether the car is used on the road or track. We have fitted these GT2 stiff axle tilt evo kits to dozens of 993's including convertibles and have not had one complaint about ride quality, all customers report the same improvements that John talks about with his car. When I fitted them to my 993RS I found I could all of a sudden drive it like a 964RS - by the scruff of it's neck - whereas before I was always nervous about what was going to happen next. Don't question this, if you want your 993 to handle predictably on the edge of grip you just have to fit them.

Bill, there is no easy way to put these on the car other than to strip off the subframes, press out the old mounts, pop in the solids and rebuild the whole lot. Sounds like a pain, but at least whilst it is all apart you can clean it, inspect everything for crack/damage and is all's well give it a lick of paint ("silverwheels" alloy spray paint works well on a budget) and have a nice clean back end to look at under the car. You need to do a bit more work though to get it as clean as our latest creation (stiff kit already fitted of course) .....

Thanks, I'm leaning toward doing this. One more question, how exotic is the press needed? Is this a heat and press processes or just cold press? Do I need to take them to a machine shop?

My toe links have already been replaced and they don't hold an alignment for beans anyway. I guess that the curbs at track speed is too much for them.

Bill-

Keep us updated on the route you take - sounds like our cars will end up being very similar. And by the way, your avatar is pure torture for me at this stage!
