Default Tell me about 993 interior vs. other 911s, beyond the obvious.

Of course the trim is updated and the various pieces integrate better. What I want to know is about dimensions.

I've read that core dimensions of the body were enchanged from the early 70s. That is why body kits fit from one decade to the next, and cars can be pre-dated or up-dated.

What about the interior? It seems that before the 1990 cars the seats were very close together. Are the cabin dimensions thinner, or are things packaged differently? I've given up looking at earlier cars because of the seat intimacy.

Also, except for the seats, are 964s and 993s the same?

I thought you just sold a 993?

From looking at both, I'd say 964 & 993 interiors are identical (apart from seat patterns, etc.)

I'm a little confused too. Didn't you just sell a 993? It seems it's up for sale yet again, and I read from someone on this board that they should stay away from it. I asked you on a previous post why you were selling your 993, but you never responded to my question.

I'm not accusing you of anything, but I must say that reading from someone to stay away from the 993 you once owned, coupled with not answering my question as to why you were selling it, gives you the appearance of being a little shady. Of course I could be totally wrong.

Maybe you could clear this up so no one gets the wrong idea? Just a suggestion.

The only changed dimension from 1965-1998 is the center tunnel, which is taller as of the 964. Otherwise the interior dimensions are almost identical.

Goofball I responded to you here in post #4. Also, I gave more details here, see post #1 and #7.

I didn't sell. The dealer bought it back for certain innaccuracies. Since you're challenging my good name, those innaccuracies were listed on the Ebay auction I won. That included a bad catalyst, bad "new" ac evaporator core, and lack of Bilstein suspension, and a few dings and cleanliness issues. Quite the opposite of the impression I was given in the Ebay description. They remedied the first two issues, balked at the third and instead offered to buy it back including tax, title, registration. Good on them for doing that. So, I'm now looking for something else after I assess my situation with a newborn child.

Yeah 964 and 993 are nearly identical except for seats. What about earlier model year cars? Do they have the same interior dimensions? Why are the seats so close together?

Certain aftermarket seats will not fit in 993s because they are too wide. Is is that 993 seats are thinner than previous years therefore giving extra room for the center console?

No, no absolutely I'm not trying to challenge your good name. I appreciate your response and understand your situation much better now. My apologies if there was any misunderstanding. Thanks for sharing what happened, and I hope you find the 993 you're looking for very soon. Best of luck to you.

Get a copy of "Porsche 911 Story" by Paul Frere...It has pretty much every detail on 911s through 2001.

Off the top of my head…

993 door panels are revised from 964 and also offer hi-fi sound package
Silk-screening on steering wheel stalks are slightly different
Cab top switch relocated from under the dash
Seat stitching different (and hard back seats offered)
Rear cab seats different (fixed assembly)
CCU has separate buttons instead of one on the 964
Mirror select button moved to door (from under dash)
964 doors had twist lock *****…switch in center console for 993
993 offered heated mirror switch in dash (next to fog light switch)
Center console switches on 964 were rotary and revised to rocker switches in 993
6 speed vs 5 speed shift lever

All of these things are minor and the 993 items are direct replacements for a 964

That was pretty comprehensive.

So, if the parts are interchangeable, essentially the interior dimensions are the same or similar?

The 964 and 993 had a raised tunnel for the driveshaft for the Carrera 4. Very early cars may seem to have closer seats because the cushions were wider since the tunnel was so low to the floor.

The last edition of Paul Frere's book covers the 997.

That's exactly the info I was seeking. I just couldn't figure why the seats had more space between them yet width dimensions hadn't changed. It's because the 993 seats are thinner. Thanks!

When I say early, I mean low bumper, pre-73. I don't know if the SC and the 3.2 seats are wider than the 964 and 993 seats. The don't appear to be, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. To me, they appear to be the same.
