is shipping safe?

Wondering if shipping a car cross the country is a good idea.
Other than missing out on a great drive in a fast car for days it seems easier on the body and checkbook. Any clues for companies?
Thanks

I used Reliable (big orange rigs) when I shipped mine. I had a friend who new a guy so I got a good deal. They are first class. I'd drive if I had to do it again. Unless your buying a garage queen.
I was very pleased with DeMoise. A little less $ than Intercity. Very good service and communication. You may want to search for "transport" etc. Many thoughts on this topic.
FedEx seems to be the new 800# gorilla volume-wise, but I have no personal experience.

I used Passport (Fed-Ex logistics) last. I paid a little more to have it top loaded vs. being on the bottom. They were the least expensive hauler I found at that time.
Shop around, prices are all over the board. Get the bottom line delivered price. Some carriers give you a rate then add a fuel surcharge when you get the bill.
I've used in the past:Passport, Horseless Carriage and Intercity.
Good luck with your search.

I have used Dependable Auto Shippers, Ebay reccomended, on three occassions and would use them again. Shipped from Florida to California. No problems other then running a couple days over their estimates on two trips, but were a week early the other time. I believe they ship our cars, Porsches, in enclosed trailers.

HogHaulers out of Portland Oregon has trucks heading to and from the west coast, trucked my car from Dallas to Seattle for $1600.00 included were misc parts boxes and a pair of factory sport seats. An enclosed trailer is a must if you really care about the car.
Have used two of the recomended carriers mentioined, I have one big NO-NO
Do not use any one that uses a terminal system. Even though they tell your car will be shipped covered, what they do not tell you is it can sit, out side un attended for up to a week waiting for the next truck to pick it up.
