I was leaving my friend's house near the Bonnet Shores in Narragansett, RI, when I passed a black 993 C2S around 7PM Sunday. It was turning off of I think Rt. 1 (the main street with the grocery store and new CVS) near the Shell gas station heading toward Rt 1A. I was in my navy blue New Beetle Convertible and maybe you even caught a glimpse of the 993 TT hollow spoke wheels or the 993 TT Big Reds (yes there is a kit to fit those brakes onto a VW). I would have flashed my high beams, but you would have wondered why the hell a VW was flashing its high beams at you. Any idea who's car this is? In any case, I will be at the Rolex Vintage Festival at Limerock and at Porsche Day at the Lars Anderson car museum during the next two weekends, so if you're there, look for a Guards red 993 Cabriolet with an Asian driver and introduce yourself.

Sorry, these are the best pics I have. I still haven't mastered the art of shrinking picture file sizes without shrinking the dimensions...The hollow spoke twists are real--I got them from Wheel Enhancement. The Big Reds are from ECS Tuning, and are for a 993 TT, not repainted 993 C2 brakes. They replace the 993 rotor hat with a hat that has the VW 5x100 bolt pattern, so I have to run H&R 5x130 bolt adaptors to fit the wheels. I guess I could have just used 993TT rotors and hats thus negating the need for the adapters for the front, but the adapted rotors came with the kit.
The second pic is of my new Garrett GT2871. The car came with the 1.8 Liter 20-valve turbo and Borg-Warner K03 turbo that was ubiquitous throughout the VW/Audi range. It originally had 150 crank hp and now has 275.4 wheel hp. I understand that the GT28 series turbos are often used as an upgrade by 993 Turbo owners.

My first job was at a nursery in Scituate, RI tending about 5000 mums also. Still don't like mums to this day. My wife thinks I have an irrational fear of them now....

I moved to Rhode Island from Long Island about 23 years ago-one summer out of college to take a full time job. I was into the job but not the area-Providence was pretty dead at the time. New York and Boston were the only cultural fix within reasonable traveling distance. Different story now-Providence has gone through some great changes within the last 8 years or so. Great restaurants, art scene-still easy to get around, still affordable relative to Boston and NY.

Oh man, yeah I am an old man. LOL!
I've never been back to RI since I left, however several of my close childhood friends are still there. One guy that I used to rock Van Halen with became a minister.... Go figure.
When I lived in GA I always had thoughts about driving up the RI just to see all of my mates again and to show off my Porsche (Porsche content in this post)... But the thought never materialized.
Actually, I sort of miss RI. Just couldn't handle the brutal winter!!!
