Default HELP! Sideview mirror stolen!!

Hey guys,
Mad at the world today...went out to dinner last night to celebrate my son's b'day. This morning I noticed my r/s view mirror was gone! Not lying on the ground, no body damage, clean gone! I live in a gated community with "security". The cable connector is still intact so it must have been unplugged as opposed to yanked/pryed off. In any case...does anyone have one to sell? "98 911 w/b teardrop design... Thanks....now for a cold vodka/tonic to calm the soul

WOW. Unbelievable.

Better than someone tearing stuff up, causing damage... I guess... but still.

What area do you live in? (just curious)

I had BOTH of mine stolen last year in front of my place; at $500-$800 a pop for new ones, I can see why. Probably a thriving black market for these. If it matters, I put the $2250 thru insurance, and since it was not collision related, they didn't raise my rates.

Sounds like a white-gloved criminal. Sucks that it happened, but if it was going to happen at least it turned out the way it did with no damage.

Ditto on the location.

Had a 928 that had 4 sets of mirrors stolen at about $1,000 per painted set I finally sold the car. Sorry to hear about your loss. When you have nice things, people want to take them away.

where are you located? Where I live (Glendale, CA) there has been an obscene amount of Mercedes and BMW's side mirrors stolen within the last year. I always wondered where the stolen Porsche parts went to. The community must be pretty small compared to the other manufacturers.

Check ebay. One pair for sale right now.

I work for a retailer and stuff stolen from our company ends up online all the time.

At least they never stole your windscreen. Years ago when I was living in the UK I had a 911T. I went out to wash it one morning and biffed a bucket of water over the car and was surprised that the water went into the car! The bastards had taken out my windscreen and carpets, folded them up and placed under a bush, then put the screen on top to stop them getting wet.
They stole the stereo and took great care not to wreck anything. The strangest thing ever really.
Pro thiefs. Nice one.

When I picked up my car, the PO (Dannen) said he used to take his mirrors off all the time !... I thought he was crazy (and told him so).... Wow.... I am REALLY SURPRISED to hear this !.

He also mentioned replacing the mirror screw with a less 'removable' type...such as torx screw or something similar. Anyone have any ideas for a "Security screw" to use with our mirrors ?

PS: To "soften" the blow.... take $25 off the part I pm'd you about ! ; ) !

OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM :

LINK 1 : With "Urethane in the Hole" Solution

LINK 2 : With "get a proximity sensor alarm or shotgun" Solution

LINK 3: With "replace bolt with a torx bolt" solution

LINK 4 : With "No solution" solution (and a lot of "me too's " )

LINK 5 : With only some pics of 964 mirror attachment points

LINK 6 : well....actually....it is this thread !

no Link but solution 7:

Get the RUF mirrors that are glued to the car . Much less of a market for these as installing them is a PITA because it requires welding the door and complete door respray.. Maybe then they will leave your car alone..

Wow, That really bites! Stuff like that used to happen to my SC but since fencing off my driveway coming over a fence and locked gate isn't an option especially with the guard dog.
