Default Tree sap

Can someone enlighten me on how to remove pine tree sap from my cabriolet top. I tried dishwashing liquid but to no avail. Maybe someone has had this problem. Thanks in advance.

Methyl alcohol, aka methanol or methyl hydrate does a superb job of lifting pine tar ..... follow up with a mild soap to clean remaining residue off glass/top/paint.

Go to WalMart to the paint section. Find the GooGone, but don't buy that. Next to it is another product that is milder and smells like citrus (can't remember the name, and mine ran out, sorry). Get that one. Works on tree sap and other adhesives (like tape or price tags) without melting plastics. Just use as little as you need.

I swore never to go to WalMart, but in this case the P-car takes priority. Thanks.

Default tree sap

You can get methyl alcohol from a pharmacy. It may be behind the counter.

Try this, get a damp towel, heat it up in the microwave till it's really hot, then let it sit on the sap then once the sap is semi liquid remove it with the towel.

Notice that the guys recommending "methyl alcohol" are from Canada. In the US, it's denatured alcohol, or ethanol with a litlle methanol to make it undrinkable. Like they said, the stuff you find in drug stores. Let us know how it works!

Isopropyl alcohol is not denatured alcohol. I've read on autopia.com that denatured alcohol is effective for removing tree sap from convertible tops, but I haven't done it myself. I hope it works for you, GOCB.

isopropyl alcohol 70% worked just fine for my BMW M3 with its months-old tree sap. Wiped it off in @ 2 seconds after my worrying about "what to do" for months. It did not leave any residue: I used water to follow.
