what console is this?

It's a useful piece to have if you need additional gauges (ie for a Turbo) or want to mount a NAV system. I have one that I'd like to install either a Bearcat and/or additional gauges but just haven't gotten around to.
If you car has it, consider yourself lucky...you can get a decent amount of change for it.

considering one with it for my weekend car. probably good that it blocks access to the ashtray as then i could not smoke cigars in the car.

I have it installed in my car, and I don't like it at all.
It reduced your leg room especially around the knee area,
(look closely to the picture above, this console is too fat)
you can not move your leg going side ways and your leg will be rubbing against the console.
If you drive the car long enough, you will know what I mean.

Cool Is the factory wiring for the clock sufficient to reach or did you need to splice in additional wiring?

Unfortunately the wiring harness had to be extended…took a while, but worth it. Allowed me to keep the clock and warning lights while putting the boost gauge where it should have been all along.

I've always wondered why someone hasn't come up with an aftermarket version of this. Guess it wouldn't be worth it? You could probably modify the design to allow a little more leg room for the driver.

That is exactly what I was going to do if I found one of these. I recently checked the wiring and would have to splice it as stated.
I think I will take a standard console and have a stereo shop fiberglass up the upper part and then get the whole thing recovered. Someday...
