Default Has Anyone Gone Backwards? 996/997 > 993?

I'm thinking about shuffling the deck again...

I've had the good fortune of having owned a 996 GT3 and a 997 GT3RS, both now sold and gone. Living in the mountains, I have a winter car and a summer car, but I hate having two cars that are depreciating at the same time. And, well, I've always loved the 993 C4S. So maybe I can consolidate into one car for year round use AND have something that is reasonably stable in value.

Anyone else made a similar move? Will I be happy in a 10 year old car???

I have gone back and forth. 964 to 993 to 997 to 993 and 964 to 993 Turbo R! Whew.

I can't live without an aircooled 993. 997s was a great car and very comfortable and fast. But they are as common as grass around here and lacked the soul of the 964/993 cars that I had.

I now know that the 993 is the right Porsche for me. I don't miss any of the modern features nor the H2O.

Working on it. Had a 997 last summer and looking for a 993 cab now. I think that the driving experience will make up for a few of the missing ammenities.

I don't know if you''ll be happy with a 993 since overall performance will be less than your prior GT3s, but I'm jealous that you have a Speedster!

1999 996 to 2001 996 to 1987 911 to 1997 993. Couldn't be happier but it's a night and day comparison. My 933 is loud, low amd minimal with regard to overall creature comforts especially for long drives...perfect for me, not necessarily for everyone. The 993 is like an old watch, the mechanical nature of this car is so intoxicating. That's was was missing in the 996.

That said....I'd be rolling in a 997GT3 if I could afford one at this time.

Yup, went from a very nice 02 996 with 030 suspension and sport seats to my current ride. On the drive home after buying it, I felt like I was back in a sports car with the intimacy and oneness that suggests, not just a very good fast car.

After over 3 years in a 996C2 I bought a 993C4. Although I miss the user friendly interior of the 996 its more than made up for by the character and noise of the 993. Overall the 993 has been less susceptible to "big bill" type failures (RMS/DMF/silencer boxes) and the 993 has wanted for only minor bodywork repairs (window aprons) and the bulk of my time has been spent replacing minor bodywork gaskets & seals that have degenerated through age.
Impossible to drive quickly without paying attention and easily bitten in the wet...but that's the fun bit!

No but based on what you're trying to accomplish, a 993 C4S could be a great choice. You won't have the same power but the car will have the same visceral characteristics and the AWD system is fantastic in the snow with proper tires.

A C4S will have the same visceral characteristics as a 997 GT3RS? Maybe if he drives it off the side of Mt Bachelor.

Thanks all for the feedback - much as I suspected, but it is nice to get the confirmation.

Does anyone know this car?

Sir, that is the most tastefully put together C4S I have seen in 11 years of 993 obsession! Anyone looking for that model would be missing a great opportunity if they passed it up, even at a premium price.
However, $61k will buy a really nice 993 turbo. If you are ready to spend that kind of $$$ and want awd, why not go that route?

Thanks Ithatch, I think most people will agree with your statement on the 993 TT.
I'm a 4S guy I just like them, I may be one in a million. It's just a better car for me.

I like the 993's more then any other car, I think the balance of Modern/classic/sport is perfect.
At this point the real question is:

Coupe
Targa
Cab
2S
4S
TT

I would like one of each
