got diss'd
I first experienced this "high end car animosity" in a Mercedes 300 SL roadster that my wife used to own. Quite frankly, with the top down I felt conspicuous in it, and our teenager refused to be seen in it in our neighbourhood, unless the top was up.
So for my 993 I picked a coupe, and I can also wear a baseball cap and shades when I drive it.

Haha, thats great!
I had a couple drunk hill billys in a old pick up truck next to me at a stop light.
All the windows where down.
Passenger hill billy: Is that you daddys car?
Me: no
(20 seconds go by, we both stop conversation and look forward)
Me: Is that your mama's truck?
Passenger hill billy: nope
(another 20 seconds go by, we both stop conversation and look forward)
Light turns green never see them again.

I live in a small town and am just a ***** that charges too much for Hi Fi gear. Thats how I got a Porsche. Pack of tossers. Tall poppy. They are *****.
I still get more compliments than negative remarks.
I even have rice burners pull up along and they take pictrures hanging out of there windows using there cells phones!
Thats classic.
If a dream come true means a mid life crisis, then I guess I'm in one

Picking up my daughter at the high school soccer practice & turning the corner to go into the parking lot there were a couple of high schoolers there on the corner, I had the top down since it was beautiful out & one of the girls said "look at him he thinks he's so cool in his midlife crisis car" I stopped right there & said "No! its just a bitchin fun car & quit being a hater & besides your daddy wishes he had one too!" that shut her up. I just thought that funny & had to share.

i received my porsche in question at 34-( that was in early 1996) now when someone gives me lip about the car-I remind them its 13 years old- first their jaw drops, then they always seem to go from arrrrrgggg to ohhhhhhhhhh- -then proceed to ask lots of questions-but with 100 cells -people just want to hear it rev and smoke the tires -which i never do-tires that is-

I have to disagree. Having lived in San Francisco and San Diego for ten years before moving to Portland last year, I get far more interest and respect for my car up here than I ever did down there.... especially So Cal man. Down there it seems like the attitude is so old school baby-boomer bass ackwards like... "why drive a German car when you could drive a cheaper Mustang and be really cool!!!".... Hmmm, right.....

Yes, that's so true. Here in Portland, Porsches are a rare sight. I must say that I do get way more compliments than diss's.
On any one of our freeways, the Tuners always want to race me and I'll give them a little frolick here and there. I always get a thumbs up and I always return the compliment.

No disrespect for Oregon; I love it there. Just seems there is a higher percentage of "greenies" that thumb their nose at anything 'perceived' to be ostentatious or environmentally unsound. Of course my limited experiences in OR were in or around Eugene.
And I agree about San Diego. The vast majority of the general public doesn't give two ****s about a p-car around here. A Veyron can still turn a few heads though.

Yup.... funny thing about that part of OR is that the majority seem to drive 6 mpg '70's V8 pickups too.

At my kids school there was one kid that made a comment to my daughter the day after I picked her up, and he said. "ha, my dad said your dad has a slow Porsche" she didn't miss a step and looked at him and said, "your dad must own a 911 or 944, he's way wrong"
I felt so proud, she's 11.
