On my way up to Lime Rock Park yesterday, I tried to set the cruise control and it won't work...Any ideas on where to start looking ???

Thanks in advance , Mike

Check the fuse #19 i believe thats the one... (this also controls brake lights i believe) - also gain access to the clutch pedal assembly and check to make sure that when the clutch pedal is fully dis-engaged the switch is contacted with the clutch pedal arm.

my cruise control stopped working and i could not for the life of me figure out why / how.... with some searching Mike and I pulled the pedal assembly apart and sure enough when we replaced the clutch kinematic lever we didn't align the clutch engagement switch properly.. re-aligning that fixed it for me.. make sure to check your brake pedal switch as well, if it's not working properly you can have a whack load of weird issue with CC and also no brake lights... Ask me how i know

The 993 has one of the best cruise controls in the business - and as someone who puts a lot of miles on a 993 I can attest to that. For any extended trip involving some serious highway cruising - for hours at the time - the control engages with a simple push with the back of a finger, and holding it down a little longer will allow you to accelerate to either pass a car up ahead or simply fine-tune your speed to keep up with the traffic. Pull the lever and it switches off. I use it a lot - being able to move your right leg around prevents it from cramping up - at least that is how it works for me. You should try it sometime.

If your brake pedal switch isn't adjusted correctly it will disengage the cruise control. Mine did this periodically until I adjusted it. If your cruise won't engage at all it may be something other than a brake pedal switch.

+1

Like the rest of the car, it has a sense of urgency in its action.

+1, I used it a lot on long trips, like 900 miles in a day. The CC in the 997 TT, by comparison, works and feels like a Lexus. More complicated to engage.

The only time I've used mine is when I was resetting the ODBII readiness codes, you need to drive for 15 minutes at less than 3K RPMS and 55-65 mph.

I knew that with my heavy foot in the gas pedal this feat would be impossible to accomplish. The CC worked great!

Thanks guys, I will first start at the #19 fuse.. I have to see if my brake light work.. Funny thing though, I have no clutch safety switch or it's mis-adjusted.. I never had a clutch switch and the cruise has always worked..

Also, make sure your clutch pedal is returning all the way to the top. If not, the cruise won't work. There is a sticky clutch pedal fix on either p-car.com or pcarworkshop.com.

I believe that Porsche uses the same Bosch sourced unit that Mercedes uses. If so the brake light circuit is critical and a burned out brake light bulb or bad connection will prevent the system from setting so check these first. The benz system has a servo actuator at the engine which seldom fails but the electronic control unit can and does fail on occasion so if the 993 system is similar you'll want to check the ECU next. Perhaps someone with more Porsche specific info can chime in with better detail.

I think you might be mistaken, the switch tells the cruise control to disengage when the clutch is pressed so the RPMs dont hit redline while the car is in neutral..

Hence why if the switch is not aligned properly it will not let the cruise control activate as it gets the signal that the clutch pedal is engaged..
