Default What are you guys paying for a PPI on a 993?

Trying to get a price range on a PPI for 993.

I understand it is harder to get the compression and leakdown test done on a 993 than my 944 (which cost me $200 at an indpendent Porsche mechanic including the compression and leakdown).

Thanks!

Imagine Auto did mine for $300 and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I called up a local race car prep shop who also looks after DE Porsches (i have never used them, but they are on the PCA inspection center list), they are saying 4-6 hours, but likely 6 hours @ $100/hr. $600PPI seems excessive to me. Most other local independent P-shops are usually 3-4 hours at $90/hr locally.

The basic working functions of the car I can inspect myself when I see it. The leakdown and compression I can't do and I also want them to look at the undercarriage (suspension, frame is straight, etc.).

The shop is "out there" for both the owner and me, but might be the closest for both. Thinking might try a different place.

I think $600 is very fair if you include a leak down test and paint thickness test.

I paid around $230 for a 1st stage PPI where the mech agreed to let me know if he thought the car would need a leakdown - in his opinion it didn't.

I concurred, and my current mech agreed whole heartedly!

Very interesting. $240 here for exactly the same examination and result!

(And no VAT or sales tax!)

Well even though my inspections were limited to 964s, they are so close to each other that I think its relevant. It depends on what part of the country you are taling about. I had cars inspected in California, Texas, Oaklahoma, and Colorado. Prices ranged from $250 in California (both north and south) and $150 in Denver. All were thorough and all included compression and leakdown. BTW all five inspections I did were done by PCA recommended shops.

For a complete PPI, which is the only one worth the money IMHO, I always budget $300.

I just checked into PPI's at a few local places in the SF Bay Area. One was $105 and the other was $150 this was without the compression test, the second place was closer to $250 with the compression test. PPI's are worth every penny. When I was doing my original search I got one on a car I was looking at and it turned out to have been in a major accident.

I was lucky enough to have found the car as another buyer was backing out the same day, but had done a PPI already. The seller gave me the shops name/number and I called them up. They gave me all the info from the PPI they had just done (same day), for free!

I agree though, that it really depends on where you are located. I would say $300 at least is a good number to plan on.

I mean no disrespect, but that's hard to believe.
