Default Aircon CCU query...

Hi all.

I'm getting my 993 prepared for a european jaunt this summer and checking out a few things.

I've noticed that the aircon CCU has started to do odd things. The defrost button and max aircon button (big snowflake) no longer seem to work. They light up but the usual increase in fan speed and activation of aircon is missing.

I can still get fan speed 4 by turning the dial and the air con still works by pressing the small snowflake button BTW.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

David.

Anyone got any ideas re this?

I've checked all the FAQs and printed off the complete a/c diagnostics etc but to no avail...

David,
yes! In my experience, cleaning the "max" AC button will resolve this.

Remove the CCU. 4 finishing nails inserted in front panel holes work fine if you don't have the tool.
Slide it our carefully.
Unplug the 2 plugs.
Remove face plate carefully.
Shoot just a bit of elect. contact cleaner into the back end of the buttons.
Work the buttons a bit.
Blow the thing out with compressed air, just to clean it up a bit. It gets dusty, especially the little CCU fan.
Voila!

Sounds like you may have already seen this but just in case... check this thread for a more complete diag. list/process. Brian did an excellent job documenting AC issues/troubleshooting: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=35947

Thanks.

Did the light come on on your button when it was malfunctioning? Mine does, but nothing else happens!

David.
David, yes it did. Light but no high speed fan or cooloing. It is a multiple pole switch.
If you take your time and are careful, the entire process takes about an hour.
You might want to lay a small towel down in the dash opening to protect the lower part of the dash from scratches.
Also, it comes very close to the column tree when sliding out. It will make it out., just take it slow so nothing gets scratched.

...and it's worked and solved all the problems.

Thanks again!

David.
