tried to remove scratches
After I removed my Carrera badge on the rear decklid of my 95 C2 there were a couiple of scratches that could not be removed with Griot's #2. I took the finest piece of 1000 grit which was already worn out and ran it over the offending area. Scratches are gone but so is the clear---I assume. Gotta have the entire decklid painted? Sometimes being really picky can be really spensive.

After wet sanding you will need to use a cutting compound to bring the shine back. If you can get this done by hand it really reduces the risk but you might need to use a polisher to get the sanding scratches out. If you use a rotary polisher be very careful of how much heat you put into the paint and keep it moving. I've had very good experiences with polishing the thick aftermarket base/clear paint jobs but not with factory paint jobs which have a very thin layer of clear.

Whew. I feel better. I wet sanded my 74 last year and it looked horrible till I took it to the shop and I watched them buff it to new. I have a Griot's buffer. I have never burned anything with it.
THanks guys.

If you broke through the clearcoat, there is no turning back... looks like your car is polar silver? That is a metallic... so paint and clearcoat will be needed.
sorry.
hopefully that is not the case.

Rear Badge delete?
Now that you're below the clear coat, you'll probably need to take the rear deck to a competent body shop for them to evaluate how far down you are into or past the clearcoat. They may be able to even out the area with the 1000/1500 method before either reclearing or reshooting base/clear.

Are you sure you went through the clear, & not just scratched it up pretty bad?
Take the #2 & go over it a few times, you might able to get it all out. If not, you might want to find a local Pro Detailer, & see what they can do.
You usually have to go over that spot with sand paper a lot to get through the clear coat.

Geting the original emblem off was simple. Removing the adhesive was not. I took it to my paint guy who used a high speed dremel type tool to finish the job. All was good until I scratched the lid placing on another badge. WHen I went after the scratch I also went thru the clear for sure cause I have tried all that was mentioned here. Can't wait for Tuesday so I can get it painted..
