Mechanics in Pittsburgh? (a little long)
I'm going to need a Porsche mechanic in Pittsburgh.
I'm inclined to not go to the Auto Palace. Even though it's only a mile away, I've seen their staff turn over a couple of times in the past few years.
The Sewickley Car Store is a possibility, although it's a lot further away, and I think I prefer independents to dealerships. I really like the strong-willed independents who have to live by their reputation, and whose business depends on word of mouth. Also, I think that a shop that makes its daily bread by service alone will pay a lot more attention to service than a dealership that is making money by moving trade-ins, financing new cars, selling used cars, and so on.
(By the way, I've used Bill Ballon for my BMW needs and can very highly recommend him.)
So the only two independents I know of are John Raysich and Dave Hanza. Can anyone vouch for either one, either for them or against them? Is there anyone else? Or is the Auto Palace perhaps not so bad?
(By the way, doing a search here revealed some interesting results. The company called Manage My Car got some great thumbs-up despite their shoddy work that led to them going out of business. And German Auto Werks got some nods too, although they scraped the paint off of my wider 540i wheels while they were mounting tires for me. I would never use them again.)
I apologize for the long post, but I think you guys know how it is when you want someone to take care of your pride and joy, and you might also know what it's like to have some one abuse your beloved.
Any tips on a Porsche mechanic in Pittsburgh would be appreciated. I hope my experiences will be helpful to the Rennlist community.

Isn't there someone really well known in PA? Can't remember if he was near Pittsburgh or remember the name right now...
(Yes, I know, utterly useless post)

Something like ten days ago, I called and scheduled an appointment for state inspection and emissions, and to fix the passenger window. They fit me in on Wednesday. Last Wednesday. And they still have my 993.

Agree with everyone else on John Raysich probably best Porsche mechanic in PA. Also very reasonable prices and if you pick up your car on Friday afternoon after 4pm make sure to bring some German beer.

Is John Raysich's shop still in business? I know he passed away, but I'm wondering if someone else took over, or they just closed up shop. I need to get a PPI done on a 993 in the Pittsburgh area.

Hi, Cal.
I've been using George Riggin for my 993. He's right off the Evans City exit, #83, on I-79 North, near Zelienople. Phone is (724) 473-8575.
If you want me to do an amateur look-see, I can.
