Did you have leaks that stopped after switching to BP?

BP is semisynthetic so you would expect minor leaks secondary to the synthetic to stop. I didn't have any to begin with so this is just my .02.

As to the Brad vs Sean issue-the Lohan Hilton oil is much slipperier.

Well to be fair I did install new valve cover gaskets. The good one's... And I do not have any green oil spots on the floor.

My car leaked on M1 (15w50) and reduced by estimated 75% on BP 20w50.
Was it the viscosity or synthetic vs. dino?

But as I've said before; YLMV.

On newer cars (including ours) the slight amount of extra leaking is usually because the synthetic maintains a lower pour viscosity at low temperatures. In otherwords, since dino oil gets thicker when it cools it leaks less. If you have no leaks you won't know the difference.

I went from 15w50 to 5w40 full syn and notice no difference in rate of oil leaks. I think it has something to do with the fact that the motor leaks when warm and once it cools it seals back up. 1 drop on the floor whether the car sits for 1 day or 1 month.

So your car just doesn't leak is what you are saying.

Guess I could try and go back to M1 after my engine is rebuilt and see if it leaks again (it better not) but I'm sticking with BP (possibly Motul) irrespective of leak control. Thats not why I switched- it was just an interesting by-product.

For the ones that have switched to BP, do you notice a little more smoke at startup. I just switched over and have noticed it more then with Mobile1.

[[B]QUOTE=DJF1;5411188]I'm sticking to Mobil 1 15-50. Kind of sick and tired on the whole expertise issue. At first it was all about the ZDDP or whatever they are called. Mobil 1 changed, low ZDDP's etc equals no good. On the oil board people post VOA's of the new Mobil 1 with more than adequate ZDDP's. Mobil comes out and specifically says that the new oil has high ZDDP's and its thicker as our engines require it to be. Now the issue is the "formulation". What the heck is it? Or there are other interests in the background? I wonder if Porsche uses Brad Penn on their racing engines.
Give me a break.[/QUOTE]

Everyone needs to look at the information before them on any topic and draw their own conclusion. Otherwise they are not thinking. Here is how my little brain is tracking. I do not understand or appreciate the bite in the DJF1's post. If all is well with the world, politicians, governments, corporations etc, just accept what is official. That is not me or why I come onto Rennlist. I want to take advantage of one of the best things the Internet can give; help, information and views from enthusiasts and professionals that otherwise I would be unlikely to come in contact with. I am very grateful to Charles Navarro, Steve Weiner and a gentleman from Sydney whose name escapes me who shared their experiences with us about abnormal wear in engines using the new Mobil 1 formulation. My conclusion is to follow their recommendations, but I do respect anyone who comes to an opposite conclusion. I do not respect however, someone who imples that they have vested interests without offering anything to support such a serious contention. This sort of posting will only result in professionals stopping posting on Rennlist and we all will then be by far the poorer.

I have an oil change at 10am this morning at my shop. Im sticking with Mobil 1.

Im a fan of Valvoline for my Explorer--146k on the clock and running strong. Every 3k, I change the oil. As I do with my C4.
