economy ups and down ... Is a cycle, so soon or later will drop again, probably not to $11 per barril of course , but wont last forever at 3 digit levels.
probably we can use a vespa in the meantime ....

Sadly, your situation is probably about the norm. We Americans sure got smart after the first oil crisis 30+ years ago when we swore we would never again let OPEC run our lives. We believed we'd soon have MPG averages that would be dazzling. Thirty years later, we are bigger oil pigs than ever, but of course we need mammoth truck-framed family vehicles and mini-mansions to provide adequate space for the one thing that has gotten smaller in the past century -- the average size of a US family.

My 993 is very economical compared to my daily driver, my Ford Expedition.
However the 993 is no longer concidered a "Chick Magnet"
I think the chicks now are looking more at the guys with the SUV's, they can tell right away
who's who by the standing near the Seven Eleven window and hearing, "I'll take $125 on number 3!"
No need for a credit check before starting this relationship!

You guys in the States have had it good for such a long time. Wait till you have a greedy government that doubles the price you pay for fuel with taxes. Hell we tax on tax for our petrol.
Experience has shown that demand for fuel is inealstic. Booming economies in Asia means increasing affluence, more cars, more fuel more demand.
I'm sure that the oil price increase will not affect the lifestyles of too many here but it will for many and the overall inflationary impact of rising fuel prices will mean that everything is gong to be more expensive and generally less affordable for all.

Your right on. $7 gal gas equals $7 gal Milk and on down the line. Everything runs down the road in big Diesel trucks. Bread twice as much and people won't be making twice as much.

CNBC's story yesterday said that $200 oil would equate to $5.50/gal. gas, where did $7 + come from? This country would shut down if thats the case. All 3 US auto makers would shut down, not being able to sell truck/suv's. Diesel would be $10 a gallon and with no pay increase, truckers would strike. This is just pure greed going on, not market or situation driven. Granted the powers that be, want to see things higher that $15 oil, but I can't believe Americans will stand for much more of this.
