Need '95 993 CCU Unit Repaired
Greetings all. I have researched the topic here and found many listings that are several years old, but nothing recent so thought I would bring the topic up again. My A/C CCU is acting up after I removed it and I believe I need it repaired. I removed it to clean the fan and temperature control sensor then have had problems reinstalling it. The cabin fan will work with the unit out but when I reinstall it in the dash, the fan control will no longer operate the fan. Must have something to do with pressing the unit into the dash. Guess it would be better to send the CCU off for a rework. Anyone had this done recently and can point me in the right direction? I found a place in Venice, CA but the post is three years old. I saw one on the Bay that is described as "rebuilt" but would rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!

Quasr,
I had some erratic CCU operation and it turned out to be the pin connectors not mating properly.
I used a product to clean and soak the connectors that is used by the aviation guys for aircraft electronics - similar connector set-up. ACF50 is the product and is safe for connectors and plastic. I used it for years on all aviation electronics for similar problems.
You can buy a spray can at 'Aircraft Spruce'.

I would try fellow Rennlister' Loren at Systems Consulting, he knows these control units better than any one. There is a very good reason why nearly every shop on the west coast and elsewhere in north america use his services.

I appreciate the suggestion of the contact cleaner. I unpacked the unit and gave it a try with no luck. I then shipped it off to autoecu in KY. They seem to know the unit and offer a 2 year warranty. I believe they quoted me a price around $250.00. The repair place in CA wanted $325 to $525 (not sure why the difference). I should have it back mid week next week and will post the results. I have just replaced the evaporator, expansion valve, dryer and hoses with not much cooling improvement. If this does the trick, I will be a happy camper! It is hot here in FL...

Ouch! I had my CCU rebuilt by a company called Autoecu in TN at the cost of $249.00. I told them what problem I was having, no interior fan operation, and sent it off. It arrived a few days ago and I installed it. Now not only does the interior fans not work, when the recirculate button is pushed the a/c compressor cuts out, when the "hi cool" button is pushed, the a/c condenser fan immediately powers up on hi speed. I asked the company what parts they had replaced and they would not divulge that information stating it was proprietary. Would you pay your mechanic after he gave you a bill and refused to tell you what parts he had replaced?
Like I have heard before, you get what you pay for. The company offered to re-do the unit but I am opting for just hunting down a used CCU for a '93 993. Any ideas?
By the way, the TN company did refund my money after I refused to send the unit back for another stab at it.
