Strange fuel filler neck problem
The first time I filled up my new 993 I could swear there was a metal flap at the top of the filler neck like most other cars. It's not there now. I haven't been able to see if it is stuck open or gone. Anybody ran into this? Any consequences?
ps I'll stop looking for the remote now that I know that early '95s didn't come with them.

There is a metal flap on my '95.
You need to push the nossle through this flag in order to be able to fill with gas, else it creates a watertight seal, I imagine for safety purposes.
Perhaps its stuck in the open position?
Can you see if this is the case?

Just checked my '96 and no flap and it just went thru smog testing a couple of months ago so this appears to be normal. Maybe another rlister can chime in with a '95.

Thinking I was pretty sure I didn't have one, I just checked. It seems as though mine is stuck in the down (open) position as well. Mine is a 95 also
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure it was there before my accident. I wonder if the new parts for that fender included the broken one. The car was hit a week after I got it so I'm kind of fuzzy on the before-wreck tid-bits since it was such a small amount of time.
FWIW, I think I've been running it this way for 9 months or so, autocrossing and daily driving, without issue. What can come of continued use this way? Water in the gas? Evaporation? (maybe thats why my milage sucks, its certainly not from my heavy right foot )

I have one on my early 96 Targa (late 95 build). It seals really tight too. I went to fill my tank the other day and there was a quarter cup of gas under the cap.
