In a few weeks, my wife and I are driving my 993 (I will do all of the driving) from Northern California to Montreal and back. It should be the best trip of all time.

In preparation for the trip, among other things (most of which were noted in a recent post), I have purchased the following:

1. Valentine One

2. Fire extinguisher with seat bracket from Performance Products.

3. A Colgan Custom bra (from Performance Products).

I now think I should return the vinyl bra (I have never been a big fan of how they look, and I am now hearing that they can cause paint damage) and get some sort of clear bra.

Any thoughts regarding clear bras would be appreciated (e.g., good installers, how much of the car should be covered, etc.).

Also, have any of you installed the fire extinguisher seat bracket sold by Performance? If so, how much does it affect seat mobility?

What are you protecting against? Ive used a bra on track days and never had a problem with paint as long as you follow the directions on how to properly mount it. I only use the bra to protect from rubber chunks or debris from the track. For bugs, just put a heavy coat of wax on the nose to ease the removal. I like the S100 at a harley shop - doesnt ever dry and bugs just bounce off the nose. For dirt etc, just dont follow anyone close.

That sounds like an amazing trip. I drove my 993 from Seattle to Maryland, via Canada, a few years ago. Loved every minute of it.

I have the extinguisher mount from Stable Energies. It's a very nice design and allows full fore & aft seat travel. I also purchased a 2.5 lb Amerex Halotron extinguisher from them.

Get yourself a Garmin Nuvi, any current model that does text to speech GPS, Costco online usually has good prices for them.

Get the clear bra and do the entire hood. You will avoid the seam across the hood and not get the stone chip that always happens just above the clear bra line on a partially covered hood.

Don't forget no radar detectors in Canada (at least Ontario), and they have detector detectors.

A cell phone and an AMX card and you are good to go.

Hey, Harry! You mentioned this; it sounds awesome. Hopefully the Montreal RLers can plan a reception for you!

I'd bring a spare DME relay and a "triple square" alternator shaft wrench. I'm a freak, and also pack a matching 24mm(?) combination wrench in the passenger door pocket. It has many uses!

I'd also pull my spare tire and test it as well as my air compressor.

Don't forget a little cooler with some Cokes and Fritos--that will cover four of the five basic food groups--sugar, salt, grease, and caffeine, leaving out only alcohol, which you want to leave for evenings anyway...Je me souviens

The clear bra will go on before the trip.

The car should (I am knocking on wood as I write this) be ready for our expedition: Fresh RMG engine rebuild (less than 2,000 miles); new RoW M030 set up (less than 2,500 miles); and a new (to me) set of Cup IIs with fresh Pilot Sport Ribs (bought and installed primarily for the trip - I will probably put the hollow-spokes back on when we get back; although, the ride compliance difference (with a less-noticeable performance decrease) is pretty dramatic (to me)).

Having said all of that, I am going to have RMG conduct a final prep/inspection a few days before the trip.

I just got back from a shorter 1900 mile trip. While I didn't have any problems necessitating tools I did use window wipes and paper towels. If you hit cold weather proper windshield wash will be good. A 12 volt cell phone adapter can be a lifesaver. I did buy a couple of cans of tire sealant just in case as I don't have a spare. The GPS would have been very useful. Don't forget your passport.
