My 1997 C4 Cab is the same blue and I would like to dye the dash and upper portion of the door panels black. Can you share some details of how you did it. Are they leather or leatherette, does it matter.

Three spoke wheels are a real bonus as far as hand position.

Most parts are vinyl in my 993. The dye works on vinyl, leather and leatherette.
Purchase black dye, paint brush and foam rollers and warn the wife that you wont be seeing her for a while. That steering wheel looks so out of place! You need to get to work. Oh and be prepared to dye all your parts and change carpet as you will want everything black. I knew I was in deep when the wife caught me twisted in a pretzel rolling dye on the headliner.

Did you remove as much as you could to do the work outside the car?

I did a color change on my mid night blue interior using Surflex too. Very easy and has held up well. I even did the steering wheel in the photo.

Al:

Congrats! It was worth the wait. The interior looks incredible in the photos. How does the dyed leather/vinyl look & feel in person? Did Don do the Recaro seat inserts too? I have to say that the painted roll-bar is something that I regret not doing... not sure if it would work though in polar silver. See you at Pocono (three weeks and counting)

Thanks! The dyed vinyl looks much better than I thought. I really can't tell the difference from my previous 993 interior. From what I hear, it holds up pretty well also. The headliner was tough, so it doesn't look perfect in my opinion, but I plan to go with an alcantara headliner in the future. I love the painted roll bars on white cars. Our buddy Dave did his in silver on a black car which looks cool. I am only doing the instructor and solo day on Friday the 4th. Will you be there on Friday?
