For $600, I'll just take my chances on the windshield!

$600 will get the front end protected, & that is a much better deal, IMHO.

$600?? Wow that's seems like a waste of money. So instead of the glass getting chipped over time, the protective film gets chipped over time. How did that help me? Replace the film once, and you could have just bought new glass for the $1200 you spent.

I suppose it might be worth it if the film could prevent a crack from a big rock, but 4.5 mil doesn't seem very substantial (same thickness as a piece of paper). I know it sure wouldn't have stopped the boulder that cracked my last windshield.

This is a great product, as we sell it as well. Not only will it protect the glass itself, but it will also protect the factory glass installation. No matter how good your window guy is, he can't install as well as the factory. This is due to special big big money tools involved in the assembly of the vehicle.

The problem with those films, having once had installed it on the front of a new black Porsche, is it just gets as nicked up and sandblasted as the paint (or, presumably, the glass) would, so I'm not sure what you're really gaining if you're going to replace the film periodically. The point is to be able to see clearly through it, after all. And there is a disclaimer about needing to replace it if it gets pitted, and that it would not be covered under any sort of warranty.

Any good glass installer can do at least as well as the factory if they know what they are doing and use a new gasket. $600 to protect a windshield with a questionable piece of VERY thin plastic does not make sense to me....and we sell and install the 3M film in our detail shop.
