Is it more impressive today to own a BMW rather than a Porsche? No comparison. I see 30-100 beemer's on my commute every day. I see 996's/997's less often, but still a rare sight. I rarely, ever see 993's. I'd rather pull up to the Playboy Mansion in my 993 than a BMW anyday of the week.

There were 539 1995 C4 993's made
There were 14,546 1977 Bronco Sports made.
Usesless factoids but I RARELY see a 95 C4 or 77 Bronco Sport driving around.

Buy a BMW if you're a glutton for punishment. The writer obviously does not OWN a newer BMW. There is a reason why BMW does not even CPO the E50 M5, or the M6, despite many coming off lease already.
I have owned BMWs since 1985. My BMW days ended in 2005.

No! Porsche is all by itself as a world class supercar you can drive daily. BMW's are dime-a-dozen here in poseur-land Southern Ca. How often do you see a nice 993 on your way to work?! What about resale value, I just paid a little less than 50% of sticker price for my 12 year old 993.
I have had and still have a few BMW's. I hate the new stuff, mainly based on styling. I think the newer cars are ugly. I love the look of the e39 5 series, the last of the e38 7 series (think 2001 740i sport), etc...
Just my opinion, but I think my e30 (1989) convert is a classic along with the first M6s, M5s, & M3s of the eightys. Aside from MAYBE the new 1 series coupe, current BMWs are over styled, overly technical garbage that I wouldn't be caught dead owning out of warranty.

I live in both worlds. My GT3 is better than anything BMW makes and myX5 4.8is is better than a CayenneS
my Z4M has 40 more HP than the Cayman and is $20k cheaper. I dont think BMW is the "new" Porsche but
I like both choices.
