Default Daytime Running Lights Question

Guys,

I have a canadian car (stored for winter). I would like to know if I install the Turbo S ducts, will I have a DRL issue?

Are the DRL the headlights or fogs or driving lights on a Canadian Originating 993?

thanks,
sam

I believe that the fog lights serve as the DRLs. I recently purchased a 993 that is in storage in the US so haven't quite crossed this bridge yet. My understanding is that installing the R63 relay turns the fog lights on when the key is in the run position.

Default Yes, fogs serve as DRL's on CDN 993`s

Hi Sam,

I can confirm that the fogs are the DRL`s on CDN 993`s and as Matt pointed-out, there is a relay that controls this to power the fogs when the ignition is on. Not that I would know, but you can disable the DRL's by removing this relay with no impact on the fog light functionality.

Cheers,
Spyro

As an aside, US cars have the space in the fuse/relay box - but no actual wiring underneath. Take a look through the slots....

As I said, I haven't crossed that bridge yet and I can't look at the car. Why they would go to the trouble of making 2 different harnesses for NA I don't know. With the harness recall (is this the same harness?) things could change again. Option B , which is less desirable, is to power them from another source at least long enough to get it by the Canadian inspection.
I probably took this thread OT - sorry.

Sorry Matt - and I know this from experience - US spec 993s don't have the harness in place for the DLR. relay. Scan Automotive in North Vancouver installed a hack for me; a special relay that gets spliced into the wiring harness right underneath the fusebox. Works like the real thing.

I'm sure you will have a p-car indy in your area who can do this for you.

Thanks. I'll cancel my order for the R63 until I can get a look at the fusebox. Either way, I'm sure it can dealt with.

The shop confirmed that the wiring for the R63 relay does not exist. They can run new wires and add the relay for about 2 hours labor. Not a big deal in the end.
Only 5 more weeks to go before I bring the new car home!
