Quick CEL fix
For those of you who have a scanner that can reset the CEL I have found that Leaving the Plastic OBD cover off helps prevent CELs.
If I put the cover on, I get a CEL within 200 miles, with the plastic cover removed: nothing . . .
Also carrying the scanner in the car prevents the light from coming on. Leave the scanner in the garage and you increase the likelihood of a CEL tenfold, even more if it is a long trip.

Andy,
Nicely done. Sounds like you have come up with some very scientific solutions. Like Bob I have taken a slightly different approach and have had 100% success with removing the bulb. And I didn't even have to pony up for a scanner!

It also helps if you call your shop everyday and make an appointment to check a CEL. The CEL light disappears immediately the next morning right before taking the car in.
I just call the shop everyday and make an appointment for the next morning. Not a single CEL in 3 years!
