I really did think about selling my old bus when I heard about this..........
I can't believe this is happening in our...err, democracy, (now a dirty word).the levels of control in the UK are intolerable, I don't know where it's going to stop.
Good luck to Porsche............but it's actually having a reverse effect.the people and the Media are laughing at sports car owners and Cayenne drivers. Although I kinda think that a 10 mpg car is a little anachronistic......Ah well.....

CO2 is not a pollutant. It's the natural biproduct of a perfect combustion process. When you hear somebody talk about CO2, rather than fuel efficiency or actual toxic emmissions, cover your wallet, because they're a crook and not a scientist.

Yes, I have some expertise in the field (science, not crookery).

keep ducking

I live in London and work just outside - my commute is 25 miles each way which takes me 30 mins on a good day, 45 if the traffic is heavy. If I were to use public transport I'd have to walk to the station (15 mins) get the tube into town (1 hour) and then a main line train out of town and finally a bus to my office (1.5 hours).

I have commitments after work which usually involve a 1 hour drive into London and then a 20 min drive home. The public transport option is back on the bus, then main line train and tube to my destination and a 15 min walk, then 15 mins again on foot and a 1 hour tube ride on my way home followed by a 15 min walk to my house.

The above is on days when I don't have site visits which require me to carry a lap top, files, hard hat and site boots.

sometimes it's not practical to use public transport

This whole mess stems at least partially from a voting public unable or unwilling to think rationally, which is due to a lack of education and parental guidance. For example, in the US, who in their right mind would support wholesale illegal immigration and full rights and full benefits (and then some) for illegal immigrants in one's country when it is so obviously wrong on so many levels? Who in their right mind could allow 3,000 of their fellow countrymen to be slaughtered and suggest, as Micheal Moore did, that that wasn't enough to justify a country defending itself? Who in their right mind can possibly believe that the federal government is the most efficient and best provider of health care, especially after that same government has demonstrated that it can't run ANY social program with efficiency and quality and that other countries who have tried it are failing miserably? Who in their right mind thinks that the public school system is fair and good and could become even fairer and better if it only had more money? Who in their right mind actually wants their country to become a third-rate economic/military power because they either hate or are embarrassed by it's greatness and can't see that their country, despite it's flaws, is the greatest agent for good in the world? Who in their right mind actually thinks that chasing the world's most violent, viscous thug dictators around and begging them to play nice-nice will work? Who in their right mind actually want everyone, including themselves, become wards of the State and doubly so when it is that very State that they despise? Who in their right mind thinks that "their candidate" is 100% correct while the "other candidate" is 100%wrong? I'd wager that 75% in the US actually believe at least one of these statements and 25% believe all.

I guess the voting public will believe what they want to believe and simply won't allow themselves to be confused by facts or rational thinking. Most people can't/won't think for themselves because it's either too difficult or they simply aren't educated enough to use their brain, so they become sheep that vote for what they are told to vote for by the most charismatic candidate while politicians pander to the lowest common denominator. And most politicians wouldn't have it any other way.

Jimbo the answer is "no one in their right mind" which is why im so afraid for the future of this country!!!!
I personally believe that a massive majority of people in this country have become so lazy and uneducated that they are willing to trade their freedom for government handouts. And in a few years down the road after the damage is done from Hillary or Obama it will be a straight up dictatorship and socialistic society.

I'm not sure what is worse: the hare-brained scheme of London's lefty Mayor, or the lunatic Right-wing ramblings that it has provoked here.

Why not take this pathetic thread elsewhere? It is an embarrassment to Rennlist.

will you happily pay $11 a gallon for gas and $50 every day to drive to your place of work and keep quiet or will you voice your opinion?

the UK has been overrun by the inept and mis-informed and are lead by the self serving who are promoted by a headline grabbing press

stealth taxes are now the norm and people have accepted that the govt dictate life rather than serve the populous who voted them in

the facts stands for themselves and it's an embarassing state of affairs

Unfortunately you have summed up the state of the UK in a few succinct sentences there my friend.

A country where the next political leader will be chosen by the readers of the biggest national tabloid newspaper. A country where ambition is frowned upon, success is taxed beyond belief, and vacuous celebrity is worshipped. A tiny island, rapidly becoming over-populated by mass-immigration, but where anyone who dares to debate the same is branded racist. A country under virtual dictatorship, but where the populace has become so apathetic that nothing is done about it. Welcome to the 21st century UK.
