Default Using 6th gear?

I'm relatively new to the world of manual transmissions
Had my p-car for 6 months and this is the first time I regularly drive manual

Occasionally I get into 6th gear when cruising on the highway at ~85mph to cut down on noise on a long trip (for my wife...)

Just curious if anyone actually uses 6th gear...and when

On the highway I go 1st , 2nd (oops, too fast), 6th.

Seems 3rd, 4th, and 5th are kind of optional.

I use 6th for economy and cruising at 80 mph.

Use the gear that is right for the job.

Is there a 6th gear?

Even at 85mph, the RPM's are so low on 6th gear that I keep it on 5th. 100 mph and over...then I go to 6th. This is off course at the track....

Every day. Usually any steady state cruising above 70mph. Sometimes this requires a downshift or two or three if I need to get on it but that's part of the fun!

Sounds like 5th gear is the ultimate gear for any man on a long trip with his wife :-)

6th is only slightly more useful than the engine tray.

It's there for a reason. Any freeway cruising speed. Why burn extra fuel going to and from the shop??

Oh boy, let's not bring up the "optimal RPM" discussion again. Anybody want to search and post the link?

I use it for above 80mph cruising. It's pretty much useless for any speeds below that, since you'll be taching under 3k.

I normally don't use 6th much, but on a recent 200 mile highway trip, I used it the whole way. I got 28MPG, according to the car's computer. So there's one reason to use it.

I only use 6th gear in stop-and-go traffic.

I find myself doing this exact thing...Maybe should have looked for a car with Tip....
