Default 993 diet

What's the best way to discard weight from a 993 without damaging it's originality? It's such a wonderful car, but heavy for track use (as we all know). Is there a short list of things to do to quickly and easily lose a couple hundred pounds?

Reversible:

lightweight seats
remove rear seats & belts
RS door panels
remove heater blower (RS bypass pipe)
d/c stereo & speakers
cat bypass pipes +/- supercup 'mufflers'
d/c engine tray
remove front fog lights

More committed:

RS carpet / remove excess glue & dampening (remove stereo - you won't hear it anyway)
remove a/c
drill out or remove structural bumpers
fiberglass or carbon fiber rear deck and rs wing (gets rid of retractable spoiler)

Rear deck & speaker
Lighter wheels (OEM 17 cup is 17 and 19lbs!!!)
Fiberglass rear lid and front hood

Don't remove sound insulation when putting in LTW flywheel. The noise will go from marble in a coffee can to big rocks in the dryer set on high!!!

Yup, all that. The interior bits, especially the front seats are really heavy. Take out the fender mounted washer reservoir or at least don't fill it more than 1L. Airbags and airbag wheel is heavy. Cat is heavy. Mine is down to 2800# with 3/4 tank - what a difference that makes in braking and acceleration.

I would like to remove my rear seats and belts so do I need the whole RS carpet kit for the rear?

Well, you remove everything (including the roof) and then put it back together leaving out anything you think you can do without ...

I'm in the process of trying to get weight below 2200 lbs (everything but driver).
2800 wasn't too hard. 2500 was much more trouble. 2200 is damned difficult and expensive.

Oh, and the dash structure you see that remains weighs 18 lbs (want to guess how I know that now?)

As a serious reply, your avatar shows a cabriolet. If you want to track the cabriolet, I'd say just leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is. Removing seats and carpet in search of the weight reduction will not be easily reversible and will definitely detract from the appearance of the cab. Been there (started to do that and then saw the light).

X2 If you're serious about losing weight, you need to start with the right platform for the track -- a coupe.

The Cab is a different animal. You may want to change platforms if you want to "seriously" track the car.

It can be done. Whilst the above advice of "leaving a cab alone" is very sound indeed, you could easily take off a couple of hundred pounds and enhance your car's driveability.

CF front hood 30
Euro bumper supports 12
Lighter wheels 30
Lighter Exhaust 20
Light weight seats 45
RS door panels 11
Remove Undertray 14
Optima Red battery 13
Heater bypass tube 6
Small washer bottle 10
LWT flywheel 19
Total 210
