Now if they can just offer it in 40 or 50w they will have the answer.

Besides offering the needed protection, we picked up some power on our engine dyno from the use of these oils, as well.

We use these in all street and racing engines.
Not to beat a dead horse, but using Brad-Penn 20w-50 in your street engine is OK? I am going to do an oil change and want to put in the recommended stuff.

Well, just between us, it was yours truly who came up with the idea a few months ago. I e-mailed Brad-Penn and they said they could see no problem in doing so and that it would give an effective 15W40. I let LN Engineering know.

OK thanks. I will check out some local shops to see if anyone in Boulder, CO sells Brad-Penn and do the mixing.

I didn't read through all 27 pgs. of this thread but I found the Mobil 1 oils spec sheet on their site. Hopefully it hasn't already been posted. It's 2 pgs. The Mobil 1 V-Twin specs are on pg. 2.

Default Mobil 1 10-40

Has anyone tried this?

I am breaking in a new 993RS motor in my 914 conversion.

The builder chose Mobil 1 10-40 synthetic, is this a good choice?

Thank you,

Craig

The 0W40 does not have the same high levels of Zn and P as the 20W50 for example. I would talk to the engine builder about adding a break in additive at the least IMHO.

Default 10-40 Mobil1

It's 10-40 if it makes a difference?

Sorry. My mistake. According to the chart the 10W40 is worse unless it's the motorcycle oil which has extremely high levels. I don't know if it is suitable. It might be a good break-in oil. Again, probably best to check again with the shop that will warranty the engine.

Would someone who is opinionated (and educated on the subject) with lot's of miles on their 3.6 comment? Each time I go to change oil I end up looking at Rennlist threads pondering. I seem to default back to Mobil 1, but am willing to deviate. N/A street car application.

Based on following the oil thread here and over on Pelican, I would say that 2 of the more popular oils would be:

- Brad Penn, either in 20w-50 or the home blend 15w-40 that NC Trackrat came up with (see earlier post)
- Swepco 15w-40

I'm currently using Swepco. I bought a case of 24 qts which gets me through 2 oil changes. When the case is gone I'll either order more or will go with Brad Penn pending any new developments reported by gurus like Charles Navarro, Steve Weiner, etc.

Good luck with your research!
