Default EVOMS 993 Induction Kit

Just curious...anybody have any experience with this EVOMS air induction kit for 993's?

"1995 993 V-Flow: Engineered utilizing state of the art CAD CAM 3D modeling, CNC machining, computer controlled Superflow air flow testing, injection molding and countless man hours. These induction systems represent the apex of air flow technologies. All of our systems install in the factory location and utilize a “ram air” affect for lower air intake temperatures and added power. Additionally, our systems also incorporate a custom cotton air filter and a 6” injection molded Venturi that acts as a vacuum for cold-air. All these components work together to create the most powerful Porsche 993 air intake systems on the market today."

+1 Snake oil...

I have to give them points for not pulling the "fabspeed" bogus claims of mega horsepower gains without any dyno graphs to back them up.

Someone on the 993TT board actually had problems with a similar intake throwing a CEL for the MAF due to disrupted airflow after the elbow. Looks like the same thing could happen here...

When I come across things like this and ask my mechanic, the response is the same,
"If it were that simple to get more power, don't you think the factory would have done it?"

Maybe yes, maybe no. The factory doesn't always do everything in the best way or for the highest benefit to horsepower for various reasons. Porsche had restrictions that owners don't always have to contend with such as sound regulations and emissions controls. Also, I have a feeling the factory held back the performance of the cars so that the next model could be offered with more horsepower. They wouldn't want to play all of their hand to soon, now would they? Case in point: look at the 964. It responds very well to header and exhaust changes. I'm sure mechanics back in the day had thought those cars did not have bolt-on horsepower . . . until the first guy changed the headers and exhaust.

That said, the intake system pictured above does not do anything for 993's. Many enthusiasts have started looking askance at the oil-impregnated foam or cotton air filters, despite the claims of "straightening out air flow", because of oil getting onto the MAF sensor.

Hey Mark,

Do you run a K&N filter or a stock Mahle filter? I've been reading about the oil on the MAF sensor, but everything seems fine w/ my K&N and I have never had an issue with my previous cars. Thanks, Pat

Pat,

I use a stock paper filter. I, too, used to run K&N's on my '84 GTI, '91 Nissan pick up truck and '95 Nissan Pathfinder but stopped after being concerned about the filters' true ability to keep out particles. Like you,I never had a MAF issue, but I know other R'listers have.

Good to know. I doubt it will make that much of a difference going back to paper. I'm getting the track itch

IMO, drilling your airbox works equally well and costs a LOT less $$$. Granted, it doesn't look as cool if that is a consideration.

As I recall the 964 Cup cars had an "open" airbox lid that supposedly added maybe 5 HP. If the factory thought that was good enough, then that's good enough for me.

Hyphen.....it's $349. But I think vetting things on this board is always a good move.

There is no cold air to be found in the 993 engine bay. Unless, of course, the damn car has been stored under a tarp in Barrow, Alaska for the last month.

I love when marketing hype specific to the fart-can crowd is applied in a sweeping manner across all automotive makes and models.
