Default B & B exhaust on 993

I tried searching this topic and I just didn't come up with anything (I probably don't know how to use "advanced search" correctly)..with that said.

What's the general concensus on B&B mufflers for our cars? Too loud? Too pricey? Cabin noise while cruising?

I'm new to the Porsche world (Finally!) and my only experence with B&B has been on friends BMWs, namely e36 M3s.

Your a rennlist member and no pics of the car!

Oh, many exhaust options - search first, ask second.

B&B are generally considered the worst of the aftermarket exhaust for Porsche.
Stick with Robin Suns mufflers or Fabspeed. I have the Fabspeed supercups now and they sound fantastic. GHL and SuperSprint are also very high quality. TechArt also makes some nice mufflers but their price point is out of reach.

Good Luck

I just drove one TODAY with a full B&B package. Here are my thoughts:

1) No resonance like many have said. No drone at highway speeds.

2) Sounds like it is under water.

3) Cheap looking. Poor fit and finish.

4) Mechanic I talked to thought it was junk. Supposedly the welds do not hold up.

I have them on my MY94 cab...came w/the car and I would have preferred RSRs, LPMMs, Supercups or even stock.

I'm very happy with Robin Sun's RSR mufflers, Great sound and not too loud to live with every day. Robin is the guy who has the p-car.com site which has been and is a great service to the 993 community. Great guy to deal with, and a rennlist member and sponsor.

I have an early generation Fabspeed supercup setup (with non-removable baffles). Not much droning, awesome sound (but very loud), and lightweight. Would highly recommend them (unless you're worried about your neighbors).

Ok so Robin's RSRs or Fabspeed's Maxflo? Do either one of these promote HP gain better than the other. Notice I said "promote"

No mufflers promote hp gain for our cars. That's the common sentiment.

Default Gemballa mufflers?

Does anyone have input on Gemballa mufflers?? The car I'm looking at just now has these mounted. Supposedly the pipes on these are a bit larger, providing more "freeflow" to the exhaust. Funny thing is, reading the invoice on these (from 1997), Gemballa themselves claim a 10hp gain compared to the stock exhaust.. . I think they have the sound dampening material inside, which makes them heavier than RSR's. Instead of replacing them with RSR's (if they sound nice), another possibility is to have someone knowledgable work his magic on these and remove the sound dampening material etc..

Guys, I beg to differ about the B&B. I've had them on my 95 cab for more than 5 years and about 60k miles on them now. They sound great (everyone comments how good the car sounds), not loud, just deep and throaty. I have polished tips so they look very good too. I will say, though, that at <2500 rpm on the highway, you get a droning noise in the cabin. It goes away completely right at 3000 rpm, so I need to drive really fast on long trips to use 6th gear (not really a problem).

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I like them a lot.
